Hey! You can type "y'all" but I cannot type G-o-t-t-a! It even "autocorrects" code & URL links to "got to"!

Probably a Chinese hack job, too stupid to use the indigenous language of the site

I hope the mods have a 1 touch ban and clean by IP address as well as user like we do on another forum I belong to.

 

I think, in this case, it is "clean by username". They resolved this a couple of days ago on another forum & now they are here.

At the other forum people created new accounts to bypass captchas & the bots spammed away later that night. I just know that the past couple of days their mitigation measures have stopped the SPAM there. IP addresses kept changing too.

 

New users should only be able to start one thread in introductions with a grace period until a mod reviews and turns on their account.

Also blocking any post with Chinese characters or invalid ones would mitigate

These simple measures make it harder to thread crap and if introductions are removed from “new” voila

 

Just click on his username and select "IGNORE" (mine now only offers Unignore, but you know what I mean:

Various Universities - I suspect its the same person from 2 years ago kept using various "Seats of Learning" and a pile of nonsense. Came 3 or 4 times, actually set up multi-user names at one stage - would give up after a day or so. Hasn't tried it for ages.

I do agree - I'm on another forum where you can't post for something like 4 weeks - any posts prior to that are moderated before posting. But that could require a rewrite of the software.

 

They are likely spoofing with a VPN, so IP blocking is pretty worthless.

I like the idea of making people wait for approval to post....but that would require the site getting constant attention

 

That would also hurt panicked users looking for emergency help with their Prius mobile computer system.

Just mark them all as IGNORE as they arrive in your Alerts List. I'm off to bed, might be cleared by morning.
