What is the best mode for normal everyday driving, some highway, some city? Is it best to keep the car in EV Auto or are there times I should switch to HV Mode? I saw something in the manual that says to use HV on the highway, but I thought there was an automatic mode so that my Prius will switch the most effective mode for me.

yes, ev auto is the simplest. after that, figuring out the best mode for each driving situation is complicated, and opinions vary.
toyota made it easy for non afficionado's.

I drove 90+ miles each day, 10-15 miles on local, 75miles in Highway. I use ev model on locals cost 50% battery life. The rest battery life I would use it in Highway. I avg on 65-80mpg. If I take out about 20% of ev miles each day. The car avg 52-64 mpg on gasoline. Avg 600-700+ miles per tank, it depends on the weather, Highway speed....etc.

I drove about 2k miles per month.
