Having the day off, I decided to tackle the install of my pioneer x8700bt. I really didn’t know what to expect. There’s only so much that YouTube videos and manuals can help. I decided to begin by ripping the entire dash out. This was straightforward. Pull the air vents unscrew a few screws and bobs your uncle the dash was dismantled. It was at this point I realised that there no no turning back. Next was the mfd. again, this was simple using a dill and and a socket set. Out came the radio and the new head unit was installed. Connected everything up and ensures that the resistor was attached to ensure that the ac functioned. Put everything back together and here is the end result. Steering wheel controls work perfectly as well as the ac etc. Only issue is that the Metra face plate/panel doesn’t fit. Probably something to do with the head unit. I’ll need to sand this down at some point. Other than that, I’m chuffed to have another screen and CarPlay. Woohoo! iPhone ?
Congrats on taking on the daunting task that is dash disassembly! Hope you didn't find any pieces left over when you were done...
Funny thing is I dropped a bolt under the carpet and still have 1 screw, 1 bolt and a clip left over! Oh well. I’ll probably dismantle it again soon and see if I can find where those bits are meant to go! iPhone ?
Wow! Impressive! BE BOLD! I guess that's your motto! BTW Welcome to PriusChat! Also, that steering wheel is just begging for a Wheelskins cover (…see threads passim, go on - search is you best friend! )
Being bold is great. There was no turning back once I took the dash apart. I’ll need to have a look into these steering wheel skins. Not sure if they’re available here in the U.K. I’ll have a look at em. Thanks for the welcome! ! iPhone ?
