So, my Prime is four months old today and had spent its entire life in “Eco” mode. I miss judged my drive this morning and ran out of EV battery power about five miles from home so it dropped into hybrid mode. Just for giggles, since I was going to burn some gas anyway, I entered power mode while stopped at a traffic light. When the light turned green, I chirped the wheels and really surprised myself in the acceleration! I might have to leave it in power mode for some cheap thrills
Split the difference, try Normal mode? I find it very "linear", not hair-trigger, but none of the maddening lag of ECO. I understand all the modes have been shifted on 4th gen though, so could be some apples/oranges going on.
I’ll be going out for errands in a little while with a fresh charge. I’ll see what power mode (and normal mode) feels like in EV!
DUDES!! There is nothing like the EV and POWER mode together; a marriage made on the street!! You don't have to nail it every time, but that quickness is a lot of fun! I know if those buffoons who had written evil/dismissive reviews of this car's performance, had simply regaled in it's frisky EV/POWER mode, they'd have painted a much nicer picture of this little wonder! Judicious moderation of the GO pedal will keep your EV range reasonably at 32-34, although I guess my lousy, 82-87 Eco scores show that it's not a free ride. All I can say is, go for EV/POWER for a week; you'll never go back to Eco! Please note: just for Mr. Prodigyplace, I've given up Emojis for Lent!! NOT! It's just the sensitivity of the car's response to input makes it much more fun to drive! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
I think it just makes it harder to drive because the pedal is too touchy. I always drive in ECO and have no trouble finding full power, but the car is much easier to control at low power levels.
You know, I just realized that my Alfas were exceptionally "nervous" cars, and I drove, and thoroughly enjoyed their responsiveness for some 25 years! I guess it's what you're used to. I remember taking my driver's training course some 50 years ago and having a great deal of trouble with Ford Galaxy brakes, which put you through the windshield if you breathed on them; unlike my Plymouth Belvedere, which had much safer, progressive brakes. Different strokes! Posted via the PriusChat mobile app. AChoiredTaste.com
