SOC Delta -- Is it significant?

    My 2010 Gen III (135k) is still having hybrid battery problems without resolution (almost all lights on, drivable in degraded mode) and I still can't find anybody in Oahu, HI to trouble shoot other than the dealer ($5500 battery replacement).

    I have concern that just replacing the battery will not solve the problem...

    One strange value I have noticed using EnglineLink (iPhone) is State of Charge (SOC) Delta (SCOmax and SOCmin compared). My car was sitting for about 5 days I went to drive around the neighborhood just to provide some charge for the hybrid battery. When I got in the car, SOCmax read 28.50% and SOCmin was 0%. As I drive the car, the hybrid battery charge does increase, even though my display no longer shows the moving arrows. If I drive long enough, the SOC difference seems to level out, but it takes a little while.

    Is there any significance to this? For instance…at least one block is not holding a charge and therefore likely defective?

    It is likely that (at least) one block is fialing. The SOC is calculated from the voltage of the pack and when one block is defective, the voltage is lower than normal and therefore the SOC is reported lower.
    I'm not sure if there are replacement blocks available (other than using a second hand battery pack) but you could also open the pack and look for defective wires.
    For $5500 I would try to find a scrapped Prius that's been in an accident and reuse the battery pack. In fact, I see used battery packs where I live for less then $ 1000. And installation can never be $ 4000.

    Thanks. I think indeed there is an issue with block 14.

    Finally on a test drive last night (all that I can do with the car), block 14 started at 12.29v and all others above 15. The Delta SOC stayed around 31% and the SOC min seemed frozen in the 45% range while the SOC max continued to increase.

    Interesting development. This is the first time block 14 has shown the low voltage, but maybe has been dying a slow death.

    I will look for a salvage battery – good idea.

    It was definitely a failing module. I have a gen 2 and my delta soc was only at .99%-1.06% and I DEFINITELY had a bad module. Replaced that and all the lights went away.
