Gen Four Lithium Batteries in 6 to eight years.

Our '08 is now 10 yrs. old w/ 150k and there have been no battery issues with the traction battery , even the 12 volt is OEM. Just as a precaution, we bought a '16v now that we are retired. My feeling is if you drive the car 15K+ per year, don't worry about it.

Does anybody know which particular Li-ion chemistry each of the Li-battery-equipped Prii use? I *think* that, as with Tesla, BMW uses Lithium-Cobalt, but I know that LEAF originally at least used Lithium-Manganese...

Then again, Tesla and BMW (as well as GM) use much-more-effective liquid cooling, unlike Toyota and Nissan. At least Toyota uses forced air (when deemed necessary). The original and Gen-2 LEAF cooling systems are described as “passive,” arguably meaning “no cooling system,” which is a disaster waiting to happen here in Austin...

I tried searching for what type of Li-ION battery - but GOOGLE doesn't want to divulge this info.

I suspect heat control is one of the reasons for TOYOTA to continue to develop the NiMH technology - from Gen 3 to Gen 4, the NiMH batteries are 2.4 percent lighter, 10 percent smaller, and recharge 28 percent faster.

 

That could be part of it. Another is wanting to use what they have the most experience with, predictability being a very critical part of ensuring reliability.

Li has a bigger advantage over NiMH in specific energy (energy per unit weight) than in energy density (energy per unit volume). On an airplane, “weight is everything,” so to speak. On a car, it’s important certainly, but not nearly as critical.

Bass Bassoon?

 

Better know as a contrabassoon, yes. Octave below bassoon.

Admittedly, I don’t get a lot of chance to play it recently. Plus it’s just a “cheap” (yeah right: $5K) Czech jobbie. A “real” contrabassoon costs about as much as a Prius!

Actually, it plays pretty well though, and good fit and finish for a “cheapie.” Surprisingly nimble for such a big instrument!

Can't say I've heard a contrabassoon - even a bassoon isn't common, though I played with one occasionally in my Church.

I play piano and Pipe Organ (have an Allen Digital organ at home).

Hope you enjoy playing it more and more - I get much more time with mine now I'm retired.
