Cleaning sealant off battery bus bars

I removed the copper bars from the plastic cases and soaked them in white vinigar and then lightly sanded with emery cloth.

I used a small flat screw driver to pop them out. It was fairly easy to do, just be careful with the side with wires.

 

Just cautionary: someone mentioned they also threw the nuts into vinegar, and they turned near-black, the acid reacting with their coating. He ended up replacing them, not being sure how they were effected.

 

Has anyone tried any other methods?
