Was it worth it for Prius Prime owners?

    I came from driving a 2002 Honda CRV to Prius Prime. WOW what a difference because I get milage from my job which is pretty much free money in EV mode. And when I use gas, I am still driving for pennies per mile compared to the CRV. And my milage reimbursements make 90% of my car payment a month. Plus, maintence cost are now $0 per month as well.
    And the technology of the car is awesome, but Toyota can take the Entune and stick it where the sun never shines.
    Now, do I regret buying the car? No. I was hesitant at first because I never drove one. I just went to Maine and bought the car after reading about it for 9 months.
    And now that I have 240 volt charging I can charge the car in 2 hours from empty.
    I really think this is the finest car I have owned plus like I said earlier, it is pretty much free because of the milage reimbursement from work. So how can a guy not like that.

    The wife and I upgraded from a 2004 Prius to 2017 Prime Advanced about 6 weeks ago. It's probably too early to draw solid comparisons but here are few things we've noticed so far. Our Prime is considerably quieter than our '04. The Prime handles about the same as my '04 but feels (and is) heavier. The seating in the Advanced model feels fairly classy, although the material Toyota uses on the inside of the A-pillars and headliner feels cheap, even compared to our '04. The Prime has less hatch space due to the HV battery, but we're learning to live with that, and grocery shopping or carrying a couple of pieces of luggage in the back isn't a problem. The Prime doesn't have a spare tire, but a tire repair kit is included. The Prime's headlights are much brighter than our '04. Our Prime's EV range has slowly increased as it goes through additional cycle cycles. The first charge cycle yielded 24.7 miles of EV range Now we're seeing 30 miles. (Oothers have reported 35-38 mile EV range). Your EV range will vary depending on how you drive, terrain, AC or Heat requirements, lights on or off, tire pressure, etc.

    As for the EV vs HV operational cost per mile. I've read it takes 6.7kwh to charge the Prime's battery (when empty), so mulitply that number times your local kwh cost, but its a safe bet the cost of your 25-35 miles of EV range will cost somewhere between say... 88 cents to maybe a bit over $3 in electric costs, so compare that to how much the car cost per mile using gas. You may find some EV savings cost, but perhaps not as much as you thought, depending local costs, running on EV may not save you anything at all for those first 25-35 miles.

    As for gas mileage comparisons. Our 2004 Prius still gets 44 to 51 mpg. Our Prime's gas engine hasn't turned on much, but what I've seen so far its gas mileage is at least in the mid-50's, probably more thanks in part to the better quality of Toyota's HV programming.

    I waited a long time but I drive 700 miles to go pick up my Red Prius Prime Advanced next Friday :) I cannot wait! My thanks again to those who replied to this thread!

    No ragrets. Have about 10k on my metallic gray and wife has 6k on her blizzard pearl. We just sold the 2010 Prius solar last month and the 2012 Prius PIP last year. Did not realize the folks I sold my 2012 PIP traded it at a dealer 6 months later. The dealer killed my lifetime XMSirius subscription but was able to get it reinstated on my Prime. Safety, lighting (our 2010 had defective low beam wire), comfort, amenities all make the choice to get two advanced models the right one. BTW, I use a Garmin 3790LMT, but the battery only works for 5 min or so these days, but on a drink holder stand, it makes programming on the fly easy. The newer GPS in the Prime Advanced comes in a close second, as now I can often add an address at a stoplight. The previous Prius GPS systems were not user friendly and all but useless. I mainly use the Garmin for the rental cars I use every week, including in Europe, but I also will use it in the my Prime for a business trip tomorrow. I'm looking forward to plugging my car in at the Greenville, SC Hampton Inn charging stations.

    Drive your current one until parts are falling off and then buy a Prime. We still have the 2007 Prius with 500k miles, so maybe wait until it gets to half a million miles and then get a new one. Yes, I miss my rear wiper. Is it a deal breaker? No. We have 25k since September .

    Hey Mr. Outoftown,
    There is a nifty little kit offered online to replace your "shredded" Garmin's battery; I don't remember the exact price, but it is cost effective. If you're handy with electronics, mainly to decipher the somewhat confusing instructions, it works great! Did my Nuvi 3490LMT almost a year ago, and it's still humming along. I just ordered the new Garmin DriveLuxe 51 LMT-S, which is a bit bigger, connects to your phone for traffic updates, and can be had at GPS place for only $249.95; of course, it's completely voice-commanded!

    Uncle Bob, I'll see you that and raise you to $60,000, for my Prime Advanced with only 17,000 miles! That's what I'd have to pay for a properly equipped Tesla Model 3, to meet my needs!!

    Absolutely; actually I prefer a 2+2 or just 2 seat hatchback. Convertibles are just impractical: too hot, too noisy, too many thieves, and I'm too cheap to have one just for once-every-6-months use!! Light weight, small plug-in has become my main focus recently.

    Man I jus upgraded everything in my 2012 PiP Advanced (LED everything, relays all that sh*t). I shouldn’t have test drove the Prime Advanced, it really is a big upgrade. I love the massive center console screen.

    I have about 85k on my PiP with CA HOV lane access until Jan 2019. I’m just waiting for my lane access to expire then parting out my PiP and selling it hah. I’ll live vicariously through the forums until then.

    BUT! Just guessing here, does anyone think they’ll redesign in 2020? Hmmm

    And 500k my god that’s the most I’ve ever seen on a Gen 2 hah. Congrats sir

    I don't have one, but I think it is easily one of the most unique vehicles on the road today. I am just as excited to see it on the road here in Minneapolis as I would be for a Model 3. I have only seen 1-2 here. Love the design of it.
