How may we assist you? I see you do not currently own a hybrid vehicle.

 

Lets assume you are considering a new Prius.

I encourage you to download the owners manual and read up on customization before you buy. Then make the customizations you want part of the terms of sale, the salesman will agree to it. (if you wait until later, some service departments charge)

The Prius is not a good car for those who feel the need to use the last drop of gas, it reacts very badly to running out.

Unless you get the Prime, the Prius is not a great car to drive very short distances with. It will be warming up and focuses on low emissions, once warm it focuses on MPG. So if you drive 10 blocks to the train stop, it will not do much better than other small cars. If your commute will be over 20 miles, you will get mileage second to none.

The Prius uses an Atkinson cycle engine, with some differences from the Otto cycle engine you may be used to. Shorty intakes will throw codes, loud exhausts will not improve HP, etc. On the other hand, with the exception of the brakes, most routine maintenance is the same as you are used to. (there are two coolant loops, when you change coolant do them both) The brakes last a long time, but when you attempt DIY brakes, do your research, as the car can apply the brakes on its own at any time. (unhook the 12 volt battery)

The 12 volt battery is both small and expensive, have the car in Ready whenever you are using electricity. Never jump start another vehicle and resist getting jump starts if you can.
