120000 Servicing

Was this for the Work specified for the 120 k mile change or additional items? Have you tried other dealers for comparison? Any other shops? Are you the DIY type?

not horrible, but maybe a little spendy. it's the biggest service until 240k, so, it's not going to be cheap anywhere, but you may finder cheap(er).
whatever you do, don't ignore it, the first 120k were cheap.

 

What is on the list for 120,000 mile service. You could do some of it yourself and that should lower the cost or maybe have an independent garage do the work.

 

Well, it depends what you are looking to have done. I am currently quoting out a 120k for someone and I am close to that number once I include the optional coolant, transaxle and brake fluid changes.

The factory specified 120k basic service includes an engine oil and filter change, both air filters, spark plugs, tire rotation and full inspection. I would expect to pay about $500-$600 to have this performed at the dealer. The spark plugs alone bill out at 1.5 hours (yes, we know they can be done in much less time) and the remainder of the service can probably be charged at around 1 hr. Expect to pay around 2.5 hours of labor at dealer rates and around $150 in parts.

 

All of those maintenance are doable by yourself too, you would be saving more than 1000$ since they charge a lot for labor at the dealers for those services. We do all of those services ourself.

 

Right - but not everyone is wanting, capable or willing to do those services themselves. It is a perfectly fair for a member to ask us for an appropriate price to have those items done professionally. This is not a forum for DIYers only.

 

Loaded question. Do you know what's involved? Why not itemize it, do the math?

 

Probably cost more because of labor. But they add fluids, disposing the fluids, and the 2 washers?

 

Where is "lagunitas"? nowhere, in particular, just a brew pub?

I think it rather depends on how up to date the servicing happens to be on your vehicle. My 2009 Gen II now has 129,000 on the odometer, and I remember when I took it to the local dealer for the 120k service, it was ~$200 which included new sparking-plugs, and during the service, the service manager called me and offered to replace the PCV as it needed replacing and as they were working in that area of the motor, they'd replace the PCV for the cost of the part (~$12). I think there might have been a transmission-fluid change too, although without looking back through my logs, I can't be sure, but I'm sure the engine oil and filter were changed, and the cabin and ICE air-cleaners I changed myself, - hope this helps - Wil

I would add an egr cooler cleaning while the windshield wiper cowling is removed.
