    Hi

I'm shopping for used 2017 Prius, and I'm often seeing "Distance-Pacing Cruise Control". But I don't see that name in the brochure. Is this just a different name for "Dynamic Radar Cruise Control"?

    Thanks,

    welcome!
yes, never heard of distance pacing, but it is probably a better description for those not in the know.

Yes, that's what it is. My car has this. Together with "Lane Change Assist", that's about as far as you can go with autonomous driving these days. As long as you have lines on either side of the car, and use "Distance-Pacing Cruise Control" the car can actually drive itself following the car ahead of you (unless one of the lane markings disappears). Not recommended to take your eyes off the road, or your hands off the steering wheel, of course.

I suspect it's a mis-print by a dealer. I think it should be DRCC - Dynamic RADAR Cruise Control - which is TOYOTA's terminology for Autonomous cruise. Probably someone saw it as DPCC "I wonder what that stands for" and made their own acronym up. Maybe.

LOL. A dealer that doesn't know the name of the features they're selling. SMH.

Adaptive Cruise Control is the generic name. Toyota calls it Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

    If it's a 2017, that's probably it. TSS-P was made standard for 2017.

Welcome to Prius Chat @oz10k and good luck with the car. Keep on posting here with news and questions. You'll have noticed we're a friendly bunch. Informal (mostly) and always ready to help where we can. Only problem is, some of us get sidetracked with anecdotes and humour, OK humor then, I'm a Brit! (y)

If the dealer got that wrong, what else do they mess up? Is there any other dealer close by that may be better informed?

Honestly, it's rare to see a used car features list that is correct and that applies to ANY dealer (not just Toyota ones). Most aren't car people so they just list what they see... and they still use the old style of listing items in specific order.

    e.g.

    JUST TAKEN STOCK!!!

    **LOW MILEAGE** **CLEAN**

Fully loaded with leather, sunroof, alloys and power everything!!

Thanks RCO. It does seem like a great bunch of guys and gals here!

I wonder if this is a regional thing? I'm in the Chicagoland area and I've seen several different dealerships using the term "Distance-Pacing Cruise Control".

Oh well, will be easy enough to check during a test drive.

"Distance-Pacing" sounds like someone is into athletics and got confused with cars.

There actually isn't any such thing - it's really DYNAMIC RADAR CRUISE CONTROL - where you set the maximum velocity you want to drive at like a normal cruise control, but when it comes up to another car in front going slower, it will slow back and maintain a safe distance from that car till either it disappears, speeds up or you change to another lane.

Wonderful invention, particularly in stop-start traffic - sort of a first step toward an autonomous car.

Hopefully the salesperson can actually demonstrate it for you - it's been on prestige cars for about 20 years, starting with Mercedes and Jaguar (though some more primitive versions by TOYOTA and Mitsubishi were earlier) and gradually filtering down to affordable cars. PRIUS had one of the first affordable installations which went down to Zero km/hr, previous iterations dropped the ball at about 30-40km/hr.

In modern day traffic, the conventional cruise control is useless, just about everywhere here in the north east.

The drcc in the prius is really great. I love the way that it does not freek out when some one suddenly pulls in front of you, it just backs off, and slowly regains the distance.

It only freaks out when somebody taps their brakes, either in front of you or slowing in the next lane.

Makes me laugh when they list the things that all cars have these days, like "heated rear window, rear wash wipe, central locking etc. a throwback from the 70s or earlier when some of these were extras.

No, I haven't seen that one (for those that don't know, there really is a Glass of water app)
