My Prius Prime did not come with an owner's manual folio or cover/holder. The dealer said there should've been a flimsy plastic/vinyl one in the trunk, but couldn't find it. So the dealer instead gave me a leather-bound one out of another vehicle. Definitely doesn't hold the 7+ informational booklets that come with the Prime. Called around to two other dealerships and was told that the Prime should not come with an owner's manual folio at all. So now I'm completely confused. Just curious what your Prime came with as a manual holder/folio? Can you please post a picture? Thanks!
7 toyota's, and i've never gotten anything but a cheesy vinyl dealer envelope that holds the manual and a few accessory booklets.
Mine came with a brown suede-ish leather folio thing, I found it in the back cargo area along with the charging cable. I stuck the big manual and the two quick guides in it, which made the glove box even more crammed than it was. I just looked on the window sticker (sitting on my desk at the moment), and it actually lists "Preferred Owner's Portfolio" explicitly on it, which seems strange.
first thing I did was to downloaded the main manual to my phone and chuck all the glove-box hoarding crap straight into the trash. I much prefer to read the manual online or on an e-reader than to have my glove box stuffed with manuals. I used to take them out and put them in a desk drawer until I realized I never once touched the manuals in the desk drawer and they just took up space.
good idea, but I have chosen to save them for the the next person that eventually has my car when I trade it in.
Wait what!? I'm with @priuscatprimeguy on this; that's an integral part of the car. You could at least recycle it. Cheap shot, but 4th gen sized (single) glove box: I can commiserate. @Chln25 Our Canadian 3rd gen (2010) came with a very nice cover: vinyl throughout, but heavy/solid, with a nice flocked fabric exterior. I believe American cars of the same gen have a more flimsy one, glossy, easily wrinkles? Maybe you can find the Canadian one somewhere?
Wouldn't it be nice of that 11" display had a simple PDF reader...The manual could be viewable on the screen and searchable and no glovebox clutter and never separated from the car...Seems so simple and cost efficient. I wonder if there are rules against providing books like that in this format. Maybe because they must print them for those people who don't appreciate the beauty of the 11" screen, the rest of us are condemned to live with them.
I got one like that too. The stitching gave way almost immediately. I plan on making a warranty claim on it when I go in for my first service. 8)
Cheesy dealer vinyl cover. My 2008 had a much nicer cover with a zipper. I could probably make a nice fabric zippered pouch. Sounds like a good rainy day project.
I have 6 kids. oldest being 28 and youngest 18 (and a pretty even distribution). The youngest 3 are still in college. For over the past decade I've never had an opportunity to trade in a car. for one reason or another (usually my kids crashing theirs) someone has always been in need of a vehicle. so I usually just give them my existing prius and buy a new one for myself. Ah... and I actually do recycle them. My recycler here in NJ has mixed waste recycle. all the metals, paper, glass, plastics, etc. go into their own bin. if you happen to actually trash any of that stuff you end up with a nice big fine.
I could never bring myself to bin the Owner's Manual, even though it's pretty much pristine, never used. I invariably go to the pdf format on my computer. Cargo cult, I know.
Just received the "Genuine Toyota Owers manual Portfolio" and its fantastic. Its a hugh pocket that all the manuals fit it like a glove.. Feels like soft leather and the inside is lined with silky fabric with Toyota in a pattern throughout the lining. The front has a embossed TOYOTA and I recommend it. But the real surprise was it fit in my 2020 Prius Prime XLE tiny glove box. The portfolio fit the manuals with no extra width added, so its compact and will protect the owers manual. Its sold by "Manhattan Beach Toyota" in Manhattan Beach, CA and sold on Ebay. GENUINE TOYOTA OWNERS MANUAL PORTFOLIO BLACK WITH EMBOSSED LOGO & RED STITCHING | eBay I added the manuals in PDF format as shortcuts and I used a app that worked then didn't. To my surprise my Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5g cellphone, using the Samsung Myfiles file manager allows files to be attached to the home page as shortcuts without using any app. So I have digital manuals and the hard copies riding with me in my new Toyota Portfolio in the glove box. Should we have been given this as part of the car purchase is a mystery.
I got this with my car, purchased in Dec 2019. It was in the trunk, along with the manuals. I find that when all manuals are inside the folio, it barely fits in the glovebox. So, I keep the owner's manual and the navigation manual in the glovebox, and the others in the folio in the seat back pocket of the passenger seat.
