Anyone know if there is a way to check the condition of the 12 Volt battery on a 2013 PIP? I've seen posts and You tube videos on how to do it on other years and makes but my car doesn't have the same buttons on the dash. I tried poking around all the different menus and screens but couldn't come up with anything. Can you even check your 12 volt on the 2013 PIP? Thanks
i use a $15. multimeter on the jump point under the hood. check it in the morning before touching anything in the car, including the drivers door. are you having any problems, or just curious?
Here is a video from Dorman on the 12 Volt battery. They say it has to put out a minimum of 11.5 Volts under load. Unloaded voltage readings are not the best way to determine battery capacity. The video does mention throwing a couple codes but the 11.5 Volts sounds good to me. It would be interesting if someone had an amprobe and actually measured current draw on Prius start up. This cold weather has been the death to a lot of Prius batteries since it is such a common question. A lot of Southern Prii have lead a sheltered life until this winter.
Prius PHV Manual, Section 6.1 page 618 gives values for state of charge. My measurements on my 2012 PiP April 2013 12.77 v January 2014 12.65 v May 2017 12.62 v January 2018 12.50 v While that is not a proper load test it implies somewhere above 50% capacity. I was thinking that if I had to leave it in a parking garage for a 2 week vacation it might be a good idea to replace this 5-year old battery.
I like keeping track of things, mileage, kWh to charge the battery, solar panel output for the house, etc.
