Recall of Plug-ins

Is it your fix or a workaround? I assume you will still get the recall work done when possible.

 

I just got my recall done. Totally painless. They had to open up the battery to determine which of two possible fuses it needed and then order it from a local warehouse. So they gave me a rental for free overnight. They called about 8:30 this morning to say it was ready.

On a side note, I've mentioned before that I've been pleasantly surprised by Sun Toyota. I've never bought a car from them, but get parts there and any service that's beyond my tools or skills or is under warranty. I saw a guy dropping off his Gen 4 for service. I asked him how he liked it. Holy cow!!! He waxed eloquent for about 20 minutes about how much he loved the car (2017 bought in July that he's already driven 17,000 miles and was only there for an oil change) and how well the dealer has treated him with both sales and service. You don't see that every day, so I thought I'd share some good news for a change.

 

thanks! i have not received mine yet (no problems though) but most have said the fuse is not yet available.

 

Got the letter today as well in the mail, will call the SA on Monday to schedule.

 

Is Toyota speaking of the 100 Amp Fuse built into the positive cable on the 12V?

could be, i'm not familiar. i hope i never have to open it.

 

I'm sure our competition will be all over this. But, Toyota is doing what it can to fix the problem and protect the brand.

everyone should get a loaner until the part is available for repair.

 

Tell them you want a loaner Prime as it would cause emotional distress to drive a gasoline car

 

@bisco is correct. It is inside the battery. They said the job takes about 1-1/2 hours. I left mine overnight so they could open it up and determine which of the two fuse varieties mine has and then get it from the warehouse to install the next morning without having to put it back together and take it apart again.

I never did get a letter, but checked into it on my own based on the original post.

 

Incidentally, I dropped off my Prius for it’s annual service late December, and was offered the possibility of a loaner car - they only had a gasoline manual, which I promptly refused. I definitely wanted at least an automatic transmission vehicle, as I haven’t driven a manual in about 3 years, and couldn’t imagine doing so again.

I’d driven manual transmission vehicles all my life, till I bought the Prius and realised driving didn’t have to hurt so much after all (left leg damaged by blood clot a few years ago, was difficult to work the clutch).

Ideally, I’d settle for a dinky Yaris Hybrid. I’d accept a fully loaded Yaris ICE automatic as a last resort. No More Manual Transmissions!
