2018 Camry and Camry Hybrid Official Thread

I'm new here. I just recently purchased a 2018 LE Camry Hybrid and I'd love to chat with y'all about it.

 

I noticed earlier that someone mentioned the lack of a digital speedometer. The LE Hybrid has a multi-function display between the dials on the dash and one of the screen options is a digital speedometer.

The user customization options are one of my favorite things about the car.

"Capacity. 4.0 ampere hour (LE). 6.5 ampere hour for Ni-MH (SE/XLE)"

The Ni-MH is a higher capacity pack...

 

I'm sure my Hybrid LE has an electric parking brake with brake hold as well as Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

I agree you likely have those features. The brake system is a standard part of HSD. The other features are part of TSS-P which Toyota is making standard on all but some lower level cars.

 

The NiMH has a higher capacity, but less of it can be used if long life is the goal. The two different packs have about the same usable capacity.

Right. All models of 2018 HyCam have full-speed DRCC standard.

Do you have the Blind Spot Monitor option?

If yes, were you required to add the Moonroof, Connivence, and Audio Packages in order to get the Blind Spot Monitor?

There are several things I'd like to discuss, for example: the amount paid, the mileage the car is getting, lists of pros and cons or maybe an amateur review, a personal event that accelerated the purchase, discussion about the 14 to 1 compression ratio, questions about the the engine (are the accessories all electric/belt-less?), and maybe driving techniques to maximize mileage on this type of hybrid (I was pretty good with my last hybrid). Is this the spot for all this or should some it go elsewhere (new thread or other sub forum)?

Did you have any of the Hybrid LE Packages or Options installed, or did you just get the base model with nothing extra added?

 

Pretty much bone stock base model LE Hybrid as near as I know.

 

It has been cold and I believe the cold has a huge impact on mileage. I've not done a calculated tank yet because I just recently found the trip button so all figures so far are from the LE Hybrid's display.

Lifetime MPG 46 MPG, mostly in very cold temps (mostly below freezing, lifetime MPGs were a bit lower until the last warm spell).
Worst trip 31 MPG, driving fast and aggressive (late to work) in bitter cold (208 HP weeee).
Best trip 99 MPG, short trip after the car was already warmed up so mostly EV.
Current tank 57 MPG, after a warming trend (55 degrees Fahrenheit or so) in 95 miles of mixed driving.

My commute is about 16 miles of roughly a third highway, a third city and a third back country roads. I suspect my commute is better for MPGs than average as I work off hours. I typically drive fairly normal on the way to work but I tend to drive for max MPGs on the return leg home.

The early results down in the low forties even after driving conservatively were very discouraging. One decently warm day improved the mileage greatly and now I'm looking forward to seeing what the car can do. I fully expect to crush the EPA numbers come warmer weather.

 

our '13 is only getting 38 mpg in this weather, so it is still a big improvement.

 

My wife's '14 Camry Hybrid has a lifetime average of 36.295. Zero gas saving techniques and lots of short trips. Way better than what she used to drive.

 

My wife has never been very happy with the seats in the Prius, especially the passenger seat since I do most of the driving. She does like the heater. How do you feel about the seat comfort differences compared to the Prius?

 

that's why she bought her first camry. of all the cars she test drove, it had the most comfortable seats, at least for her. she likes them much better than the prius, they are larger and have more support. i find them very comfortable on our annual trek to florida, but i'm only 5'-7".
she has a bad back, and was finding the olds alert seats painful, so we traded it for the camry in 2001, and now she is on her fourth.

 

And my wife found the 2001 Sable was more comfortable than the 2016 Camry on long trips. I felt the Sonic's seat was more comfortable, and it does have more head room.
The Camry is much better than the 2005 Prius we had though.
