Quietest replacement tires with good mpg

Are these still quiet? Some people have said the tires are very quiet brand new and maybe for a year later, but start getting noisy with more miles. I wonder if it's worth paying a premium for quiet tires if the quietness is only for when the tire has low mileage? 15K miles of quietness and then another 50K miles left of average noise or worse?

I notice the raving 5 star reviews for quiet tires are only from people who have brand new tires with 100% tread remaining.

From my experience in the GenIII the AVID S33D and AVID Ascend are about equal in noise. Both of the AVIDs are louder than the Energy Saver A/S and offer almost 3mpg worse MPG but perform better. The Primacy MXV4 was a really quiet tire and performed well but the mpg loss is terrible.

 

I have not noticed any noise difference, but would be gradual I suppose.
The tread is still quite decent and I am approaching 60k+ on 'em and never rotated.
The front tires I may replace due to making a few nail plugs, and the folks here say that is not kosher.
I will be inclined to stick with the same tire, but will do some reserach...not even sure I can still get 'em. Also when I got them they were not too expensive...not sure now.

 

I have 59K miles on my OEM Ecopia 20. Next set will be Ecopia or Michelin Energy Saver. Very happy with original set of Ecopia. Still have a little life left on my OEM tires.

 

The Continental Pro Contact w/ Eco Plus are very quiet for the '08 Yaris sedan with a speed auto ( cousin of the 1st & 2nd generation Prius ) . They're also giving a consistent 40+ m.p.g.. , red (Toyota Yaris) | Fuelly .

 

Ran the stock Ecopias for 45K - the replacement - Kumo Eco Solus are *noticeably* (and surprisingly) quieter... Now if they last the 100K miles they're rated to, that's a big bonus...

 

I just bought a 2010 Prius V and it came with brand new MXM4s that I really like so far. Glad to hear the positive comments on them.

 

The Eco+ give good handling , ride , quietness , and fuel economy , but they're wearing too quickly for our likeness . These tires won't go the distance that's claimed . At $90+ each , it's disappointing . They were put on 4/10/11 and off in December and then installed in late March and just rotated a week or 2 ago . Keep them at an average of 35 p.s.i. and don't drive fast or furious . Here's the good in pics .

 

How bad is the treadwear? If they wear out too soon, then make a claim with the pro-rated warranty.

Most of these long-life tires are dry rotted before they are worn out, so the long life is really a mute point. From what I have seen, tires get hard and dry rotted quite badly by the 5 year mark, which is 50-60k for most people.

 

At about 7/32s on a few tires ( front ) . Now moved to back . They begin at 11/32s' .

 

If you change to bigger rims and 17 inch tires it will be quieter and you will get more mpg. your speedometer will be Wrong by twelve miles at 60 miles per hour. you will be doing 72 ! In ten hours of driving you will have covered
120 miles more. but this will not be recorded in your mpg or speedo.
The bigger wheel goes further for each revolution but your speedo does not recogognize this. Sincerely Harry Cotton.

Per my response there: there is next to no difference in outside diameter, between 195/65R15, and 215/45R17. It's a case of of bigger rim but shallower sidewall, it all balances out.

 

My Michelin Premier A/S are awesome in every respect. They adversely affected my mileage by a couple of mpg, but are tops in all other catagories: snow, ice, dry/wet handling, smoothness, low noise, responsiveness. They were worth every penny!

 

I'm still kind of on the fence, have to make a decision on some 17" soon. @bisco likes the Premier's too. Still @jimmyjam 's review is giving me the jitters, may still go with Primacy MXM4:

Costco has Primacy in v rated (90K km treadlife warranty) and w rated (70K km treadlife warranty). The latter are $24 cheaper per tire. I'm not clear why, well there's the warranty, but that's kinda immaterial to us, with low mileage and snow tire usage. I'm wondering if the w rated might give up something in rolling resistance?

 

yeah, i couldn't comment on the prius size vs the hycam. maybe that makes a difference, or maybe just the way granny drives.

 

I just got a set of Ecopia 422 Plus tires from Costco and absolutely love them. Mpg’s are fantastic as is road noise and handling. They were around $430 out the door, I honestly wasn’t expecting them to be this nice on the road at that price point.

What country of manufacture? There are 3 different versions with different tread patterns & warranties. My Gen 4 came with the lower rated Japanese ones.

 

From Costco you may have limited choices. They will only sell you tires that meet the specifications originally installed on your vehicle even though you may not fully load it.They will likely only sell you a tire that matches the OEM speed rating.
