    I have an 07 prius package 2. I have installed a nav jbl mfd but I'm curious what is necessary or if its possible without too much wiring to show the maintainence reminders as far as like oil, oil filter, rotation, atf fluid battery etc?

    As far as I know it's just a dumb odometer counter? Look in your Maintenance in Warranty booklet for what needs doing.

    Don't have the owners manual. What I'm trying to do is show all the maintenance information on the MFD like my wife's 06 package 8 does.

    Can you post some screenshots of the 06 MFD?

    Not exactly sure what you are trying to do, but if you have the "Navigation" option you will need to press the "Info" button.

    The Navigation manual should, and it's downloadable from the same place as the OM.

    Sorry they posted sideways but the top pic is my wife's 2006 package 8 MFD and it has the maintenance option when you press info. The bottom is my 2007 package 2 that I added the nav MFD from another prius because I like the look compared to the package 2 display and was going to use oem Bluetooth function but went another route. Is there a separate computer that lets me see the maintenance option. Also the next pic is after I press maintenance on the 06.

    You want the "Toyota 2006 Prius Navigation Owner's Manual", info on the above maintenance section starts on page 91. I just browsed a bit, but the sense I get is that it's a somewhat cumbersome record keeping database? Maybe? And what happens if you every disconnect the 12 volt, with out a memory saver? Do all the entries go up in smoke??

    Search for "Toyota Tech Info" with google will find the site with the pdf manuals. The site currently upsets Firefox, I need to use Internet Explorer to access it. I'll attach a pdf of the above mentioned manual, in case you're struggling.

    My take: it's an effort by Toyota that sorta died on the vine. I'm not sure though, didn't look too far. I would prefer to keep my own log, and follow the maintenance schedule in the Scheduled Maintenance Booklet (also available in pdf format at the same site).

    Although some of the wiring for the Navigation equipped MFD is on a non-Navigation equipped car, I'm guessing that not all of it is there, so it would be impossible to get the Maintenance screen unless you also got the wiring harness from a Navigation equipped car.

    I guess if I'd purchased my Gen 2 car new, I would have used all the record keeping features of the Maintenance screen, but my car already had 211K miles on it when I bought it. For sure I did not think it would still be on the road a couple of years later with now 255K miles on the odometer. Now I see that it would have been useful to have a record of all the maintenance I have done in one place, instead of having scattered invoices in the glove compartment. I can understand why you would want to have access to the Maintenance screen, I just don't think you will be able to get it without a lot of re-wiring.

    I keep all receipts in order by date in a binder, and maintain a simple, text format log file (extension .txt). Here's a sample:

    ====
    Friday, October 13, 2017
    km: 71388
    * changed engine oil and filter
    ====
    Tuesday, October 24, 2017
    km: 71590
    * inspected rear brakes, pads disassembled and lubed, calipers pins relubed, caliper bracket and rotor removed, anti-rattle clips (on caliper bracket) cleaned/lubed
    * rotor measurements:
    right runout: 0.1 mm (could try rotating rotor to reduce this next time)
    right thickness: 8.85 mm (new is 9.0)
    left runout: 0.06 mm
    left thickness: 8.85 (same)
    * pad thickness (all): 8.5~9.0 (plenty!)
    * also looked at right side bearing assembly, removed mounting bolts. It appears to be very glued-on with rust.

    *remaining thickness of pads (all): 7 mm (roughly)

    If you had two wiring diagrams side by side you could see the differences between the two and then there may be programming involved.

    Just a guess and may give you some direction to your answer.

    I'm still wondering what happens if you disconnect the 12 volt battery: all the info vapourizes?

    It probably does get wiped out. In the first year we owned our car, I don't recall seeing the "Maintenance Required" light come on at all, probably because I had disconnected the 12V a couple of times. Since then, it has not been disconnected and now the light always comes on at 5K miles after the last oil change. (I guess that also depends upon the oil change guys remembering to reset it.)

    I'm thinking the same thing. I'm a mechanic and keep great records but this screen can be very useful. Would be nice to access it. If not I time all maintenance with both of mine together at the same time. Oil changes, rates and balances, atf drain and fills spark plugs etc so it's easier to remember.
