I recently purchased a lightly used Prius v two with the 57010 display. I would like to upgrade to 57011. I found a unit from an online yard for a really good price. From the pics, I can see the unit is in really good shape, and includes the Harmon amp. The yard has been responsive to my emails, and offers some sort of warranty. What I am looking for, is an itemized list of parts to be sure to get from the donor vehicle. The yard is 1000 miles away, so I am not doing the pulling. For example, I assume that the GPS and XM antennas are not installed in my Prius v two. I don't have a FSM yet, so I don't know where to look for these antennas. Also important, do I need any information from the donor vehicle to "unlock" this unit? I don't know how the unlocking is done, but I would guess the VIN is needed.
I did a lot of research as I'm the process of upgrading my 57011 to the current gen model 2015+ Head Unit display w/ Navigation Entune Apps (higher-res + split screen mode) To answer your questions, you'll simply need a GPS antenna (the part which you posted yourself), XM antenna (here's a thread for more info Prius v Antenna XM Satellite Fading | PriusChat). As I searched around Toyota Nation forums. I found this thread for Corolla users that are in the same boat as you. It was suggested to simply purchase non OEM antennas if you don't want to spend too much. How to upgrade Entune head units to navigation for less than you think! - Toyota Nation Forum : Toyota Car and Truck Forums Lastly, the head unit will work perfectly fine with no unlocking required. You will ONLY need the donor's VIN if you want to activate/register Entune Apps off your phone as it requires one.
not large enough to warrant the $500+ of the cost of that deck, but I bought one that included the Nav/XM unit for less than $200 on eBay from a salvage seller that didn't know the true value of it! Notable improvements would be higher-res, split screen capability (for those w/o the JBL head unit of the previous model). The downside is, there have been numerous reports of freezing for the 2015+ models. But I believe it should be fixed if you do a firmware update on the unit (if the model number is one of the affected ones).
Lots of good info. I started reading the "Display Unit" owners manual, which is divided into two manuals (one without NAV and one with NAV). In the NAV version, I can see that those units have a "Voice Command" button on the steering wheel, right above the Pick-up / Hang-up switches. My steering wheel has a blank where such a switch is installed. Voice Command is probably the feature I need most, as I am Driving Lyft. Any ideas on getting just this switch? Steering wheels are expensive on eBay. Speaking of Lyft, I have been investigating cloning my phone's screen onto the display. Looks like I would need a lot of expensive parts. Ideally, I would somehow mount my phone between the end of the armrest, and the bottom of the HVAC controls.
The voice switch itself comes as an assembly and from what I see on eBay it can run from $50 - $300. But I wasn't able to find a 2012 - 2015 model for the left side that has the Voice Command button. i would say buy used steering wheel like this: 45103-47020 12-15 TOYOTA PRIUS STEERING WHEEL + PHONE CONTROL SWITCHES OEM #A-7 | eBay
OK, I found a 57011 unit on eBay, and gave it to myself for Christmas. It has been so cold here in Philly, that I was afraid the plastic panels might crack. After almost four weeks, I finally had time on a day when it was above freezing. The swap was a lot easier than I thought. I had purchased a universal GPS antenna with a connector that sort of fits, if I press hard enough. I am very happy with the HD radio. The two speakers in the back doors now actually work. Did they install 6 speakers in every trim level, but only use 4 of them on the 57010? Anyway, the sound quality is improved. Then I hit the "Apps" button. I get the "System not Installed" message. I guess that is why I got this unit for $116 including shipping. The auction title included "No Code", which my dealer told me Toyota has not required for a long time. Gotta find a small enough USB stick. I still don't know what I will do about the Voice Command Switch. I might put a separate switch on the panel that has the "Power" and "Park" buttons. I have trouble finding the switches on the steering wheel anyway.
Something is very wrong!!! I tried upgrading the radio unit in the "System not Installed" state. Apparently the upgrade procedure won't work if there is no "System" to upgrade from. Here is what I have done / tried: I found a USB drive that I could delete everything from, then reformat. I copied the "swdl.iso" file into the root directory of the thumb drive. I turned on the car, then the radio, then inserted the thumb drive. I then pressed the "apps" button, and I still get the "System not installed" message. I tried charging my phone from the jack, and the phone made sounds like it was charging. Also, the android "Ampre" app I have said the phone was receiving a measly 100ma. I went to select the audio source to "USB" without the thumb drive plugged in. The USB source was grayed out. As soon as I plugged my thumb drive in, the USB source was selectable. Of course I got a message that no audio files were on the thumb drive. So the USB port appears to be functional. I am suspicious that the "System Volume Information" folder in the root of the thumb drive.
Two more things: 1) All of the posts I have read so far indicate that the "System not installed" problem comes with Bluetooth not working. Bluetooth seems to be working fine with this unit. I am wondering if this 57011 unit meant for a trim level three is looking at my VIN number. It sees that my Prius V is a level 2, and disables all of the upgraded features (or simply crashed). 2) My unit came with the expansion box, but no cable to connect it to the main box. I don't plan to use the XM radio, so I did not care. Is it possible that the missing cable is making the entune system unhappy? Basically, this 57011 unit has the functionality of the 57010 it replaced, except now I have HD radio.
I discovered that I was wrong about the cable to the extension box. Entune won't load if this cable is missing. I bought the cable for $30.02 on Amazon of all places (search for "Genuine Toyota Accessories PT296-47120-AB Wire Harness"). OK pressing the Apps button now seems to work. The problem I am having is with the Navigation (the main reason for upgrading). I bought a universal powered GPS antenna with a similar connector. There appear to be two unused antenna jacks on the back of the combined unit (one for Sat, the other for Nav). One jack is on the upper right corner, and the other is on the lower left corner (when viewed from the back). The plug is too big to fit in the lower left jack. With the "Powered Universal GPS antenna" plugged into the upper right corner jack, the GPS still thinks it is in Las Vegas Nevada. I tried navigating to my home in Philadelphia, and it seems to detect the car moving. I keep getting told to turn left or right onto streets that exist in Las Vegas. OK, so I have one of two problems: 1) The powered universal GPS antenna does not work. 2) I need to hack the plug on the antenna, and make the plug fit into the other jack. It would be nice to know which jack is for GPS, before I start hacking at the plug. Anybody know? BTW, the entune is at 3.10 at the moment.
Today, I cut the connector down, and put it into the jack on the extension box. The GPS no longer thinks it is in Vegas. YEAH! Now I have to solve the problem of a dead USB port. It is totally dead, no power, or anything. I am pretty sure it worked before I installe the expansion box cable. A USB port is essential because I get frequent requests from passengers to play their music from their phones through the stereo. Also, this unit is running 3.10 entune, and I need the port to upgrade. I will have to pull it again to have a look. I seem to remember an empty jack on the extension unit. Maybe with the extension unit installed, I need to move the USB plug to this port.
OK, so I moved the gray USB plug from the back of the main box, to the extension box. The USB port now works! Next step is to find a "Voice Control" switch. Since my factory installed unit was not Entune, the switch is missing from the steering wheel. I actually would prefer an on dash switch, if that is possible.
I managed to update the Entune Software from 2.x to 5.x today. I bought a Sandisk 16GB stick, Deleted the sandisk software files, and copied the decompressed .ISO file to the empty disk. Plugged in the USB stick, was recognized. Worked without a hitch. Much better graphics. Now I would like to update the maps. They are currently at 2013, and I believe a 2017 is available. Where do I get the MAP update? Do I do it via a USB stick, or is there an SD card hidden somewhere? I am confused. Hoping to get unconfused.
