Coil Pack Purchase

    Pretty sure I have a bad coil pack. I am seeing from $12 on Amazon to $100+ local auto parts. Is there something I should be focusing on to make sure I get the right one at the best price. Oreilly has one for $30 so that is kind of what I am aiming at for better reliability and can go get someone in front of me if needed verses $12 at amazon and just end up with return or toss.

    Many on here promote OEM, and say the aftermarket coils crap out much faster.

    I would go with the 'lifetime warranty' option, if there is one. I did that for both of my pump purchases recently.

    How did you go about narrowing it down to the coil?

    Had misfire codes say 6 months and 20,000 miles ago I put in new spark plugs, misfire went away. Long term Cat codes P420. Went to take my son to the caves yesterday, halfway there misfire worse than ever and actually could feel it pretty sure if I kept at highway speeds it would have failed outright. We abandoned the trip in the middle of down town and nursed her home. Pulled the plugs and four looks like the old one did at only 20,000 miles and the coil has muk and damage. Currently low on funds so planning to switch 2 and 4 and see if it follows. But at $30 I could figure that out and just replace and see from there. Been trying to save up to swap new cat but not getting reasonable quotes anyway.

    Not sure about the 'muk and damage' part, but when swapping the coils around you might want to clean them of any carbon tracking and carefully check the rubber(s) for integrity, sometimes that can be the weak link in failing coils.

    How many miles are on this vehicle?

    How much oil (if any) are you burning or losing between changes, and what oil change interval on you using?

    Which codes did you pull and with what kind of code reader?
