I recently updated to a 2015 Prius. My last Prius had the gas tank on the passenger side. This one has it on the driver side. From what I've read all 3rd Generation Priuses have round gas tank doors on the drivers side. I have noticed a few (definitely) a minority, that have the gas tank on the right side. Just curious as to why this is? Anyone know?
never seen one on the passenger side, you're probably looking at the pip plug in charging port. was your last prius the 2001 in your profile? that might explain it.
...the only thing I can think of is changes for crash test ratings, but I remain confused if we have a confirmed finding of a design change yet If OP got himself a PiP, be sure to get Green HOV sticker while they're hot and CA rebate
On those particular cars, have you looked closer to be certain the door is only on the right, nothing on the left? The Plug-In Prius has two round doors, gas tank on the left, electron tank on the right.
A quick way to tell a Plug-in model is that they have brushed metal (stainless steel?) trom along the lower edge of the rear hatch.
There are several "tells" for a plugin Prius. The "bar" just under the lower rear window and the door handles are silver-gray instead of body color. The outer inverted 'J' of the tail lights have clear lenses instead of red. The HSD logo includes a silver plug. A 'bar' just above the lower grill is silver instead of black. The label on the front fenders has two lines to read Plug-in Prius. And of course the "fuel" door on the right, which also has a plug logo on it.
i moved the charger to the front on mine, because my evse wouldn't reach the back right corner unless i backed in. since the door was already there, i added a second gas tank.
I converted the charging port on my car to a Mr. Fusion home energy reactor since 3 kWh seems kinda piddly compared to 1.21 gigawatts.
I think they're all in the same place regardless of market. Mine is a RHD car and the refueling door is on the passenger side - your driver side.
My Toyota Prius 2011 imported from Japan has the gasoline refueling door on the passenger side - the left side.
Yes, it's in the same place as ours. I think the OP saw PiPs with their EV charging connector on the right side.
Wow, shows how observant I am, I don't ever remember even seeing a plug in except at the auto show. I know a Prime when I see one.
The Japanese passanger side is the driver's side in the US (and almost all other countries). My gasoline refueling door therefore is on the driver's side - the left side. No need to overcomplicate things by stating where the passenger sits, the gasoline refueling door is always on the left side.
