Shopping for a New car is stressing me out big time. I’m looking at 2017 Prius Two or Two Eco. I am looking at 2017 instead of 2018 due to dealer rebate/APR. Is it worth paying extra for 2018? Not much changes between 17 and 18, correct? Also choosing between Two and Two Eco has been very stressful. I know the difference in specs. However I still can’t decide. Any of you bought one over the other and now wish you didn’t? Which is more popular in general, Two or Two Eco? Thanks!
I bought the Two Eco because I wanted the extra cargo capacity more than the spare tire. I realize there is a chance I might have to use the tire repair kit at some point, but I'm 62 and in my entire life I have not been stranded due to a flat tire. I've had flats, but they've typically been slow leaks, and I found them in the garage. The extra cargo space I will use on a regular basis. Regarding battery, it's possible the Eco Li-Ion battery is better than the nickel metal hydride of the Two, but on the other hand the old tech is proven. I have not heard that the 2018 models are different from 2017. No regrets for my purchase. Happy shopping!
I'm 65 and couldn't imagine buying a car without a spare. I got a '17 trim two, because I knew the 18s would be more costly. I haven't heard that the '18s will be any different. I love my purchase and haven't regretted buying one smidgen. Sent using Hello Moto
I bought the 2017 Two in October 2016. I wanted the spare tire and the time proven NiMH battery. My only regret is not waiting for the added safety features added halfway through 2017. I thought the blind spot monitoring would be useful. As far as I know the 2018 is the same except some trims are getting the 11” center screen like the Prime
I wouldn't worry about the space gained by not having a spare donut. Unless your planning to fill every square inch of cargo room your not going to notice it. There really isn't much difference in worldly term between them, so I'd compare the lists of features and forget about the mpg differences. You won't go wrong whichever you choose, so good luck. Personally I'd go for the bigger discount and apr. Your savings will compensate for the reduced value when you sell it on.
In 2016 I wanted a Two Eco but there were none available. As the 2002 Corolla had died I bought the 2016 Two. There were some features I did not get with the Two that are now on the 2017 Two. With 15k and few long highway trips my overall mileage, per the car computer, is 61.3. With the back seats down it can sure haul stuff! P01M ?
Does Two have flat cargo area where as Eco not flat? When seats are folded? I read that 2017 has two different safety features. what's the difference? And how to I tell if one I'm looking at has it? Thanks
I was looking at a 2016 demo (a canadian level) that had the spare, and there's still a slight step-down from the rear threshold to the the hatch floor, maybe an inch. I'd prefer level: easier for sliding loads in. Also, The Eco doesn't have a hatch area cover, IIRC. And, there's two styles of hatch cover, the more solid, roller style is only on levels 4 IIRC.
I believe the earlier 2017 Eco had the same flexible cargo cover as the Two. When the added TSS Plus in 2017.5, they removed the cargo cover and mounts. Not sure. They added blind-spot monitoring & rear cross-traffic alerts. Are there sensors in the bumper for that? Otherwise, look at the sticker on the car for the features.
You could splurge and get a prius 3 and have both a spare and the newer battery shouldn't cost that much more.
Actually, it depends on priorities. I was originally dreaming about a 2016 Three before the 2017 was released. When the 2017 came out, O realized that, for me, the Two had what I felt was necessary and the Three did not have enough of my "wants" to justify the price difference. 2017 Clearance pricing may change that though.
Yeah, sticker price and actual purchase price may vary and the gap between the 2 eco and the three may shrink somewhat.
If you want a spare, and the traditional roller-style hatch cover, you're SOL? If I'm not mistaken, EVERY level in Canada has the lightweight hatch cover. OTOH, virtually, all do have a spare, expecting the top level with optional tech package.
There's no difference between the two in the Two and Two Eco trim levels - they're carryover models. The Two's cargo area is closer to the level of the rear seats than the Two Eco because of the spare tire. The Eco does not have the spare tire so the cargo floor drops by about 2-3". 2017.5 models have the no-charge Safety Plus packages. On the Two, that includes BSM/RCTA and I believe ICS as well. For BSM/RCTA, the radar is behind the bumper so you can't spot that easily but you can look in the exterior mirrors and look for the BSM warning light embedded in the mirrors. ICS/IPA involves 12 ultrasonic sonar sensors around the car. You can definitely spot them - most of the sensors look like the backup sensors. (In the front, two of them are grey in colour and are integrated into the upper grille)
