Need advise on Transmission oil change and O2 sensor socket

That's very expensive. Just use any other fluid you can get locally that has the WS specs. Its basically a Dextron 6 viscosity wise. Its a very tough trans it will not care.

 

So, to clarify, is this just for a 4 L container of ATF-WS from the parts counter, or was it for a transaxle oil change at the dealer?

If it is just the parts price, it seems a little high.

Also you may want to check your service history, as Toyota NZ does the transaxle oil change as part of the fixed price 90,000 km service.

Just remember, you cannot compare prices in other jurisdictions, especially USA. NZ is just a little Island in the bottom of the Pacific and we continue to get price gouged under the guise of freight charges for (relatively) small consignments, given our population.

Check TradeMe, there are a few car parts sellers there who sell genuine parts, and some with slightly better pricing.

You could also check on the Penrite and Nulon websites to see if they have compatible ATF-WS. I haven't gone there as the information from Toyota on what ATF-WS actually is, makes it very difficult to judge whether a competitor's product is the equivalent. Plus Toyota already have done the change on both my Prii, so I don't need to go there for a while.

 

I am no oil expert but I would run the Toyota oil. It is easy to change, remove the plug, drain the oil out and pump the new in. It's not like a regular automatic transmission, it's more like filling a gear box.

 

When was the transaxle oil last changed?

 

Yep it is just filling a gearbox. With that kind of high mileage why bother dropping that much money on
4 quarts of atf.
Nothing special about WS just a vey low viscosity D6 trans fluid with a big calcium pack for long life.
It’s not even synthetic.

Look around at your auto parts store for a WS compatible fluid. There should be plenty.

I was charged NZ$149.92 back in Dec 2013 for 1 (fill) of Toyota ATF-WS. Then add GST (local consumer tax) of 15% and it comes out at $172.41. So may be correct.

The flexible funnel has to have a very small nozzle. Make sure you get the fill hole open first and that fill hole bolt is really really on there I think they used thread lock on it. You will need a breaker bar and possibly assist pipe. It’s difficult diy as you have to get the car up very high to do this.

Dump it all in a wide mouth receptacle. Take that old fluid out in the sun and stir it up good and see if you see any non ferrous bright metal particles in it. Good check for wear. I’m sure it will be jet black.

Since the car is up in the wind now is the time to do the inverter coolant change. That’s really the most important fluid in the car imho. That’s very easy. Dump bolt right next to trans dump bolt under the car. Fill it back up with Toyota SLLC and bleed it. You should see instant mileage improvement as the inverter will run much cooler and be very happy. That fluid cools both the inverter and the trans. The inverter is the hardest working device in the car.

I usually clean the under dash ac ecoil too I make the most of the car that high up in the air.
I use Koolit from amazon just hook the can up and inject the cleaner.

It’s a busy day. I use RedlineD6 trans fluid and Water Wetter in the inverter coolant. Have since the day I bought the car new 10 years and 120000 miles ago.
