This week, driving through the piles of snow in the streets, a bottom heat shield partially fell off of the car. It's the one that protects the underside of the exhaust heat exchanger. It probably happened as I dipped into a pile of frozen slush at the end of a driveway. I can now hear it drag everywhere. I'm planning on tying the heatshield back onto the car but it would be good to have a picture of the undercarriage of a Prius Gen 3. Anyone know of a picture? Also any advice for what fasteners to use? Thanks.
If you already got a hold of the fallen one, I sure bet it would be easy you find out the position it fell off from, and fix em. I think would save you more cost. But if you don't know where it came from, that'd be another ball game entirely
It didn't fall off. It's held on by one corner. I also don't have a heated garage and it's 5* outside so I'm wanting to get it right the first time. Does anyone know what fastens the heatshields to the car? Pixel XL ?
I'm thinking 10 mm (socket size) bolts into weld-nuts on the body. If you can find some spare bolts, or borrow from elsewhere on the car, you can look for holes and check if they'll screw in.
Here you go: https://attachments.priuschat.com/attachment-files/2016/02/101419_PriusUndercarriage.jpg Looks like the heat shield is fastened with plastic clips. While cold, I would set up to get it removed then when it gets warmer, get it back on.. Good luck
You can see plastic fastener in that pic. I'd wager that's what they all (4) are. Bring in the one you have to compare.
I would just get that shield off and work inside in the warmth bending it back into good condition . You won’t need that til summer anyway. Stay warm.
Ok that was too easy. The heatshield is off the car and the car's off the jack stands. Thanks. Happy New Year! Pixel XL ?
thanks to you guys I know where this shield belongs... mine fell off in a water puddle and was dragging on the road lol thanks !
