Have them fully charge the car upon delivery.

Hi Mark I see that you traded in a 2010 Prius in September for your advanced. Would you mind sharing what model yours was and the mileage and what they took off sticker... I am in the process haven't picked up car - trading 2010 Prius iv 150000 miles for an advanced - they are giving me 6500 off 2017 sticker... thank you

It was a Prius II and I didn't trade it in, I sold it myself. $6,500 sounds pretty good to me for a 150K 2010 P IV. Others may agree or disagree, but that's them, not me.

It says Super White 040 on the paperwork. On the website it's available in that color. Are you thinking normal Prius?

It's not available to the public in that colour. The public gets a pearlescent white called Blizzard Pearl and it's an extra cost colour (3-coat paint). Super White is a flat white that, for the Prime, is available to fleet owners.... unless there's some special Hawaii exception.

You're right... there's no color difference on the website if I pick Super white or blizzard pearl. I actually have no idea what it looks like as they only had a Titanium Glow on the lot for test drives. But I assume it's white. haha

Super White is a flat white (non-metallic).

Blizzard Pearl is a 3-coat pearlescent white with a sheen or glimmer under the sun. It's hard to replicate that on a webpage.

Here's an image from another member. It kinda shows the sheen from the reflected sunlight over the fenders and upper door areas. There's a slight yellowish tint at some angles.

    Here's a super white. It's really white.

Thanks! I think the Super white will look good with the wheel covers removed. the alloys are really light silver. One of my favorite setups was a Championship white Acura Integra with powder coated white rims.

That's my favourite too. It seems to be the iconic colour combination. (Sorry Phoenix Yellow owners!)

    @dokihara

One other programming change I would ask Toyota to do is turn off the driver's side seat belt warning beeps. Extremely annoying if you are moving the car a short distance, say in a parking lot. As someone mentioned earlier, have them turn off the annoying backup beeps. Also, you may want to set the headlights to turn off after 15 seconds instead of 30 seconds after you turn the car off (just a pet peeve of mine).

Having grown up on the Windward side of Oahu, I can tell you that the Prime is an excellent purchase for your Hawaii driving. The warm weather and very short travel distances are right in the Prime's "sweet spot". The warmer weather means you'll get more miles per charge and the very short, stop and go traffic in Honolulu is perfect for the Prime.

Here are some things to keep in mind, though:

Driving on EV up steep hills at speed will drain the battery incredibly fast. Driving fast will drain the battery quickly period. Electric motor efficiency drops off sharply above 35+ MPH. This means if you are heading up the H3, Pali or Likelike Highways, I would consider putting the car into HV mode only. (The only problem is that by the time the engine finishes it's warm up period, you may be on the downhill side of those freeways!)

As an aside, I never use EV-Auto. For my California driving, I set the car to EV (Electric) mode when I am off the freeways, but always put it in HV (Hybrid) mode when I get on the freeways. This saves my battery charge to be used only when I'm driving at slower speeds. In Honolulu, of course, you might be in EV most of the time as traffic can be crazy. You can probably drive most of the H1 freeway on EV also as it seems to be getting worse every year. The EV/HV mode button is located in the middle between the "Mode" and "EV Auto" buttons. They are located in the bottom right below the LCD display.

I set my driving "Mode" button to "Normal" and keep it that way. This is more of a preference thing as I like the pedal response that the Normal setting gets you.

The air conditioning system in the Prime is VERY efficient. Set it to Eco and at a decent temp, say 72-74, and you will be amazed at how little impact it seems to have on battery life in general. YMMV of course.

Since HECO has a monopoly on electric power, it may behoove you to find free charging stations on the island unless you have solar. Use the "Plugshare" app to look for free stations. I was surprised to see quite a few on the island. It's about 6 KwH to charge the Prime and I think HECO charges something like $0.30 per KwH ?

Good luck and congratulations on your new Prime.

I just checked via Costco auto program, no dealers in my state participate for Toyota (Only Chevy/GM). Significant savings on a Volt, but still not the car for me. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for all your advice. Yeah, we do not have charging at home, so we will be utilizing the free EV charging stations around town. Target, Walmart, even Times/CVS Kaimuki has TWO EV charging stalls! We live in town and commute 2mi to school and back, so we should be able to take advantage of Electric when we are charged.

We only drive on the freeway when we go to the west side once a week for dinner.
