I'm having trouble finding the correct Prius battery. It's time to change my prius 12 V bat. It lasted 7 years. Of course the dealer is rather pricey so I went to a couple of auto parts stores. The batteries they had (and sold me--but I returned them) were size 46 B (L=9"). The original battery in my prius is size 34B/20R (L=7.5"). The bigger ones won't fit w/o modifications. I think later Prius models, maybe even a later Prius 2004 model, had the bigger battery. Has anyone else had this problem? Can the size 46B bat (L=9") be installed with easy mods to the battery holder? Any info would be appreciated. It's a great car--235K, still the original hybrid bat and even the original front brakes!
yes, if you don't want to upgrade, you may have to go with the dealer. have you tried online, optima, etc?

Yes, it can quite easily. Go get the SKS battery holder from your local Toyota Parts dept. Costs about $25. Well worth the investment.
Or your local pick-n-pull! There's only 2 bolts that hold the hold-down bracket in place. Just look for a car with smart key.
