Prius Prime and spare tire

@HPrimeAdvanced...My 2010 LB has a full size, floor jack, 2 jack stands and my Dewalt Impact just for this.

 

Ha, ha! My 43 year-old "inherited" MY floor jack, jack stands, ramps, and drain pan!! The old man couldn't use 'em any more. Thank God for my supremely reliable Prii!

Unfortunately, I'm old enough to know how to do almost everything but not yet decrepit enough to say, "no."

From the better late then never department, potentially useful things found in search of prime compact spare.

Since the Prime has no compact spare Toyota has no part number for it. Cross referencing Prime tire and wheel specifications with other Prius models that do provide specifications for a compact spare showed that 2016 Prius wheel and tires are among those that should fit the Prime.

I ordered the 2016 Prius compact spare wheel (Toyota Part Number: 42611-47630) from the local Toyota dealer who agreed to test fit it on my Prime during its 10000 mile service. The dealer verified that the wheel fit my Prime.

Using the 2016 Prius compact spare tire specification (T125/70D17 98M) I ordered a tire from Tire Rack. One thing weird, I could not search it directly on their site. Even entering their part number after I received it did not produce a hit. If I search it on google it leads to the Tire Rack page where I was able to order the tire. Interesting search engine. There were other options listed as well coming at it from the Google side. The tire mounted up on the rim and it looks like I have a functional compact spare for my Prime.

As others have said , I also plan carry the spare on trips out of town. Given the weather and distances to anywhere in this part of the world it seems to be a good idea despite the additional cost.

Compact spare wheel size: 17 x4T

Nearly 10,000 miles and this car is still so much fun to drive and drive and drive past gas stations too. To me, especially in EV mode the car feels quick and responsive around town. I know the 0-60 time is over 10 seconds but has anyone seen 0-30mph or 0-40mph times? My only disappointment is the last time a saw a sheep on the app was after the last round of sub-zero weather and although I cant be sure... I think it was flashing an obscene gesture at the mere thought of showing up in this weather.

That looks wider than the typical temp spare for a car.
There was a thread started on just them; likely in Other Cars. Someone mentioned these spares are likely for SUVs or cars whose wheels are already larger than 'normal', or at least larger than what something the size of the Prime typically mounts.

 

Seems like a lot of hassle to just compact the spare a few more inches.

So, are you also saying, the doughnut on a 2016, should fit the prime ? I was told by a parts person at Toyota that the prime has a 15 inch wheel and that the 2016 has a 17 inch wheel and it will not fit ????

 

not the regular prius, just the upscale whattayacallit. 'touring' i guess you can't tour without it.

 

If I have it straight: I have the Plus (the basic model) the other model is the Prime advanced. I thought wheel size was the same on both models.

 

Gen 4 Touring models (#T, 4T) have 17" wheels. The others all have 15" wheels. I think the soare is the same anyway for 2, 3, 3 Touring since the outside diameter is almost the same.
