I may well be missing something, but the 2018 brochure ow available for download online suggests that the BSM is not available on all those models, but rather just the 4 and 4 Touring.

Yes it's not mentioned in the brochure or under the "Safety" section of the specifications page but if you look under the "Packages" section....

    upload_2017-12-7_16-33-22.png

You'll see the Safety Plus and Safety Plus 2 packages. (The 2nd one is for Four and Four Touring models since they originally have BSM/RCTA as standard equipment).

Here is another example with each of the possibilities - Two Eco without the N/C Safety Plus Package, a Three with the Safety Plus Package and a Four with the Safety Plus Package 2

Yes. We don't use "Two, Three, Four" etc in Canada.

That's just in the States? When I checked in Canada I believe you needed to go for Advanced Tech Package for those, and it nixed the spare, doh!

I sometimes think car companies have in their mission statement, that they have make the packages maddening/frustrating...

    Is this correct?

    Seems inconsistent with post #22.

    This is from Toyota.com.

Not sure why your chart show something different with regard to the BSM.

One thing is for sure— Toyota’s literature is confusing.

While others can speak with much more authority than I can regarding the standard features on the 2018 Models, near as I can tell, there was a change as to what became “standard or a free option” for many models in the middle of the 2017 run.

In as much as the OP is considering a 2017 model, that is significant, I think.

If you click Build on the U.S. site then click Compare Models it shows the following:

    BSM.PNG

2017 mid year they started including BSM/RCTA on the Two and Three although the website never mentioned it, it still showed them as being unavailable on those trims. Supposedly on the invoice it listed BSM/RCTA as an option but then the next line listed a credit for the same amount, so free.

However it looks like in 2018 they only come with the $1,350 ATP on Two and Three

Well it turns out they also list a $0 option package that includes BSM/RCTA. So it's listed as an available option on the Two and Three, but they give it to you whether you want it or not, but they don't charge you for it. What's so confusing about that?

US only... well Japan also has a "Safety Plus" model for their base "S" trim level.

Yeah if I go to the specifications and look for it there, it's not listed. I see exactly what you posted.

You have to go to the "Packages" section.

Yes it's confusing. It's like they want to offer it but they don't want to make it a permanent thing.

My two 2016 touring 4's had 17" tires and wheels. Did they change that in 2017?

    never mind/

15" tires are cheaper but I like the handling of the Touring. The suspension is different.

I never drove one with the touring package but coming from a Gen 2 to a Gen 4, both with 15 inch tires the ride and handling is different as day and night. There are a lot of turns I always braked in, now I don't need to it rides flat and controlled through corners. You can always put 17's on a car that has 15's and the other way around.
And remember it is still a Prius. Lol
