I just bought a 2017 Prius 4 and I'm loving it. I'm have an issue with auto door locking. When all my doors are unlocked when I leave the car, they are still unlocked when I return. To make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, I walked into my garage this morning without my key fob to find all the doors unlocked. If only the driver door is unlocked, it does lock itself. Any ideas?
So the car only auto locks if you unlock the car and don’t open any doors. After so many seconds it will relive the car. iPhone ?
Time to dig out those fire kindling paper manuals that came with the car. https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47B54U/pdf/OM47B54U.pdf Door locking information starts on Page 165. More customization options are listed starting on page 750. I do not see your exact preference listed. Perhaps there are features closer to what you desire.
Not exactly. Lol. It only locks if I only open the passenger door. If I open all the doors, it doesn't lock any of them.
Welcome to Prius Chat @BarbM but I'm a bit confused. Are you using the touch method to the driver's door handle to lock up, or using the key fob? If I use the handle on my driver's door, I simply touch the the horizontal impressions toward the front and all doors lock. I touch of again and the deadlock come on, but this may be a European only facility. To unlock, I only have to grab the driver's door handle, which should unlock either all the doors or just the driver's door friending on settings. I'd like to think that helped you a little, but perhaps a more detailed explanation of you problem could help. Maybe I'm just on my own in being confused and I'm barking up the wrong tree.
I interpreted the OP as they wanted all doors to automatically lock after a set period of time. If you unlock the doors ans do not open them they will auto-lock after a period of time. Once a door has been opened, that does not happen, AFAIK. There are some customizable options, though. That's why I directed them to the manual.
Thanks for your help. From everything you said and everything in the manual, I clearly see this does not happen automatically. Now that I know this, I'll either lock them using the bottom on the inside of the driver's door or using the key fob. Thanks again.
over the years i have developed an habit , each time i step out of my car i lock the doors with the driver door button. If , somehow , i use any other method I tend not to remember it anymore and hours later the anxiety kick in because i can't visualize it and i have to walk back to the car verify if i really locked the doors. LOL
The same thing I do, but for me the door mirrors fold giving me a positive indication I did lock up when I look back to check.
Many vehicles outside the US have auto-folding mirrors. Very few in the US have them, though. Toyota US has decided we do not want/need them.
I’m sure if Toyota decided to offer this feature to any model, they could. To me, it’s just another thing that can fail. But I prefer the base level models with less bells and whistles . The only “option” our 2010 brand new in August 2009 came with was $199 floor mats that couldn’t be returned. But our base Prius mirrors manually fold if desired .
NO. None of them. If it follows the previous convention for Prius models: It will ONLY automatically lock if you unlock it with the remote and then do NOT open a door within a short time. Something like 30 seconds. I think you need to do some more testing........and should NOT count on it locking itself.....EVER. (I see you have already reached that conclusion.)
