Where are you located (here is not very descriptive;))?

The install does not take long and is not hard at all.

No need to clean everything, just good for a baseline;).

    Keep us posted (y).

I just completed cleaning the EGR cooler and valve along with the intake manifold for the first time at 178,000 miles. You really do not want to wait that long. It was very dirty. I did manage to clean everything, but, took an additional 2 days due to multiple soakings, etc. I likely will buy new parts next time and in hindsight should of either done it this time or bought used parts a couple of months before to space out cleaning and soak cycles.

After researching the ingredients in OxiClean, I found PBW cleaner has the same ones plus more. It's typically used to clean brewery equipment. I used it to clean everything except for the valve where brake cleaner was used. It takes off layers of carbon with each soaking and hot water flush, but, there were a lot layers to peel away.

You close to the Baltimore / DC metro areas or on the other side of the state?

There are some decent shops in the DC metro area. This mod is not hybrid specific, so any shop can do it ;).

    Good luck (y).

In this picture, item 7 is called the EGR pipe, but in the video, 2010-2015 Toyota Prius EGR pipe cleaning, they are calling #5 (EGR tube seal) the pipe. Does the real EGR pipe need cleaning as well?

#5 is the egr pipe / tube and #7 is the cooler.

    Best to clean everything (y).

Yes. I'll check some non-hybrid shops. Thanks!

In your picture, "ventilation hose" is one end of the PCV hose circuit. It goes through 180 deg elbow, other end is at pcv valve, also does a reduction in diameter. Have a look through @NutzAboutBolts video on intake manifold cleaning, then give it a go, at least pulling off the intake air snorkel and engine air filter housing, then you have a decent view.

Did you also try it on the intake nanifold?

Will adding two catch cans in series be better than one?

Two? Why not four? That way there's one per cylinder.

    Pixel XL ?

I've watched a video where a guy does that, two different cans, and he also tried switching the order. Basically to see which was more effective. On my phone right now, could look for that later.

I'm leaning toward zero! Looks like Moroso doesn't know what they are doing either with their twin set up. Oil Catch Can 3.jpg

Here's that video, comparing Moroso with RX Performance, and putting the two in series, two see if once can scavenge what the other missed:

This guy seems very careful in his test methods. Nice interior shots of the Moroso too, some fancy machining involved in their production. His conclusion: the RX is more effective than the Moroso. Oh well.

before I watch the whole video, what was the outcome of putting them in series?
was it WAY better than just having one?
the idea crossed my mind when I put the single one in, but the lack of space doesn't give you much of a choice..../

When the RX is first in line, the Moroso catches next to nothing. When the Moroso is first in line, the NX catches a significant extra amount.

But there's a caveat: whichever can was first in line, it caught about the same amount, around 100 ml. But when the NX was second in line, it caught about another 50 ml (which he notes seems to be mostly light stuff, gas/water mix?), whereas when the Moroso was second it caught maybe another 5 ml.

Fast forward to the last few minutes, and he explains better than I can, lol.

Interesting. It would be hard to control the variables in that comparison, temperature especially. "Light stuff" would condense a lot more readily in a cooler can.

Im surprised at how much water vapor was collected. A lot more than oil. Expected oil only. Wonder bout resilts on the prius.
Also .that test is only showing which catch can is better at 2nd stage cleaning.
I think if these 2 catchers were connected in paralel. Where 50% of volume is streamed into each of them simultaniously

Bottom line I think, there is some advantage to using two. IIRC Moroso shows some applications, specific to a particular car, with custom bracket, having two of their compact cans.

A little too rich for me, will see how one does at my spring oil change.
