i have 2005 prius smart key, door lock/ unlock inop. only starts with fob in dash slot. dealer trouble shot some and said it might be the smart key module. quoted about a grand to repair. i found a used smart key module with key fob online supposedly out of a working system.what i cant figure out is where the smart key module is on the vehicle to attempt to replace it.anyone have any insight?
Did you check the switch/button under the steering wheel? Make sure it's clicked on. Did the fob batteries get checked?

My 2009 Gen II started exhibiting problems with SKS system, which replacing fob batteries didn't fix. Solution was replacing bad 12V AuxBattery! (it usually is!)
Smart key module is in the hatch area. Driver side near the hybrid battery. Take out the rear storage tray. You'll see it on the left.
Thanks, you're right but I was (and still am) unable to edit my initial reply. The was nothing displayed as an option for Elektroingenieur so I went from memory hoping to correct it later. Now if his handle was Electroman I'd be able to remember the spelling effortlessly.
I wonder if @sherrydb and @ericbecky may be referring to different parts. Toyota’s Electronic Parts Catalog for the 2005 Prius shows, in Figure 84-20 (Wireless Door Lock), that the Smart Key Computer Assembly (PNC 89990A) is in the left side of the instrument panel. The Repair Manual and Electrical Wiring Diagram call this part the “Smart Key ECU,” and there are many previous PriusChat threads about its replacement and programming. The Door Control Receiver (PNC 89741) is in the rear of the car, as is the Luggage Electrical Key Oscillator (PNC 89993). Figure 84-24 (Anti-Theft Device) shows that the Transponder Key Computer Assembly (PNC 89780) is in the right side of the instrument panel. Without further diagnosis, I couldn’t say which of these parts, if any, might be defective. It could also be a wiring or connector problem—or just a faulty key fob or key fob battery, especially if there is only one key fob, though I’d hope that the dealer would have checked these basics before recommending an expensive repair. If reading through the PriusChat threads doesn’t provide enough information, I suggest spending $15 for a subscription to techinfo.toyota.com, where you’ll find not only the Repair Manual and Electrical Wiring Diagram, but also, in the technical training section, Smart Key System: Course T973B Handbook, with an entire section (20 pages) dedicated to the 2004–2009 Prius. (And just for the record: Elektroingenieur is easier to type than 電気エンジニア, isn’t it?)
08 Prius (w/o smart key). Took out the storage tray. Don't see any modules. Based on diagrams, it's above the gas filler tube?? How do you access door control receiver? Only have one FOB. It stopped all remote functions. New batteries. Lights flash with any button pushed. 12v batt is strong. No error codes anywhere via Techstream. Doors lock/unlock normally from inside or manually with key.

Is the Smart Key button near the drivers knee in the dash pressed Out. Or is it pressed in. It is unlikely that the module in the back has gone bad. Possible. But unlikely.

Normally that is a sign of a weak fob battery. First thing, try all the easy stuff. New fob battery, check the SKS on/off button, check all the things people suggest up thread. My local dealer would not hesitate to sell me a thousand dollars worth of unneeded parts when all I needed was a ten dollar fob battery. Try whatever you can do yourself first. Oh, and PNG , your situation is different enough that you may want to start a new thread.
