I'm a Tesla fanboy. I agree self driving will be life changing. However, it's doubtful auto pilot 2.0 on any near term S, 3, or X will come anywhere near level 5 for full autonomous driving. You need to temper your expectations. I had a conversation with a friend with a model 3 reservation. I said I wasn't interested in the 3 because it's not a hatch. He hates hatches thinks they're ugly and was glad Tesla doesn't make hatches like other EV's. To this day I'm not sure he believes me that the S is a hatch. Anyway, my sights are set on a used S with auto pilot 2 for the same price as a model 3. Hopefully, 3 years from now.
They are LEDs on the Model 3 and on that detailed video, they looked pretty good on that dark onramp. The Model S has HIDs but... I think they've recently changed them. I can't tell you when because Elon is stubborn and doesn't believe in model years. Yeah good luck trying to find a 5, 8, 10 year old Model S with the full specs (unless you're buying directly from a Tesla fan that knows the car inside and out). Hell, salesmen can't even tell LEDs from HIDs. (kept telling me the Gen 3 had HIDs)

First of all, what rebates are you referring to? If you order one now, you might not get it until 2021 the way they're going. I'll bet state rebates will also end by that year. Then there's the insurance, which has been reported to be up to twice a "normal" car. I won't even get into range anxiety - but by then, maybe some of the anxiety will be lessened. Nice tech and a gorgeous car, I will say that.
The only thing that I can foresee as soon as a decade is there may start to be some freeways that are designated for autonomous driving, at least for certain sections. These sections of freeway would have to meet some type of standard relating to lane markings, on and off ramp lengths, lighting etc. and have been tested to be safe for autonomous cars. Only in those areas would a driver be allowed to nap, read or whatever and not actually drive. There would need to be some type of electronic signal that the highways transmit indicating accidents, road construction, poor visibility due to rain, etc. which will sound an alert in the car letting the driver know that they need to take control of the car in X number of seconds. And also an alert indicating that the end of the autonomous section is nearing, or that your off-ramp is nearing (will have to be tied into the NAV system). Heavy sleepers will need to make sure that they have the volume turned up high on the alert! Maybe the seat will need to vibrate I would call that restricted autonomous, and I could see that starting in about ten years on a limited basis. Then when proven safe it would expand based on how various states and counties feel about spending the money to get their highways up to standard and installing the electronic equipment. Some areas might create autonomous toll lanes, similar to current electronic pay toll lanes. As for unrestricted full autonomous, meaning that you can go pretty much anywhere that you currently drive, in the city, business districts, residential districts, country highways, etc. I think that is decades away. I know that is hard for some to accept, but I remember when video phones were just around the corner, that was about forty-five years ago but they only became widely available a few years ago via smart phones. Jet air travel is over fifty years old now, in the 1960's they though supersonic jet travel was around the corner, but all of the projects got cancelled except for Concorde which had very limited flights and now that's gone, and supersonic travel is still considered decades away. Some things just take a long, long time because of the complexities and roadblocks. Although I do predict that within a decade our dash clocks will be self-setting!
