So the use case is... It's cold out... you stop to pick up a pizza, you shut the car off, get out lock the car.. and press AC Hold... In my world this would keep the AC on with the car off for the few minutes till I get back to keep the car interior warm.

But the Prius specifically disallows this case. You can't activate AC Hold until 3.5 minutes after turning the car off.

So I'm not sure what the meaning of AC Hold is then...

Is this the intended use case? It's cold out... you turn off the car, lock it and go into a store, 10 minutes before you plan to leave the store,... you go outside close enough to the car to activate AC Hold, and then go back in the store, finish your shopping, leave the store again and get in your warm car?

    Is that it?

It must be to prevent unintended activation? But with the Advanced I'd just use the app while in the store.

AC is the name Toyota gave to the system that maintains a cabin temperature.. It could be heating or cooling... They call it AC.

In the 07 prius.. The AC system either used the air conditioner, or engine heat to maintain a temperature.

In the 17 Prime.. it consists of a single heat pump.. that either heats or cools... as far as I can tell... no ICE heat is used

gotcha, thanks! ice heat is used when the battery is low, or when temp drops below 14 degrees i think.

Ok thanks... I bought the car in the summer... so this is the first time I'm seeing it go into a winter... with outside temps in the 40's its using the heat pump... I'm eager to see how it goes in below freezing...

Why do I want the AC system to stay on to keep the interior warm while the car is off and locked, while I run into a store?
    Because I like warm..

because ICE (the actual ICE, you know frozan water) on the windshield, takes more heat than the heat pump can pump out

Ok... so if you drive with the AC system off... all your windows fog up... but that's not the same as saying the AC defogs the windows right?
