What is the Future of Prius v (yet again for people, it is a lowercase v for the Prius v wagon)

Now why would he have a financial interest in trying to sell you what he had rather than having you wait for what might be coming?

First, reps at most dealers are usually the last to know or even care to know anything about their new models, much less future models. That goes for sales and service reps. Second there is a recent widely publicized report with photos about a new Prius v, probably out as a 2019 this time next year. It had a Prius front and a Lexus rear in a v configuration. Third, v’s are popular in Europe, practically the most desired cab over there. Fourth, Honda is making ready a 50 mpg CRV hybrid using their existing 50 mpg Accord system, while Kia Niro SUV is available now with 50 mpg.

So what does this mean for the number 1 brand with the number 1 sellin Rav4 and the number 1 hybrid technology? Toyota will have a 50 mpg v and or Rav4 or something that fits both markets next year. Count on it.

 

Prius v is dead for the US. Between the RAV4 Hybrid getting a redesign next year (with economy in the high 30 range being my guess based on the bump in Camry hybrid fuel economy) and the Sienna likely getting a hybrid variant, there isn’t much reason to offer something that splits the difference between the liftback and the RAV4. I’d love a Camry hybrid wagon but wagon buyers just don’t buy enough new cars in the US to justify the effort.

BTW, can we kill off the damn v not V explanation in every title and littered throughout posts? Put it on the forum title and be done with it.

Rav, V, Sienna = short med long station wagons.

There is some good thoughts in the above posts.

In USA 4 wheel drive for the snow belts is desirable.
Sienna is terribly long and truly looks like a family/ kids transportation vehicle. (IMO rather have a MB 63E station wagon or Cadillac V station wagon, which serves same functionality, except fuel economy, to avoid that "soccer dad" stereotype)
Rav is too tall and lacks a reasonable usable size trunk (IMO room for two and an envelope is not acceptable in a four door car segment...need airport luggage space for 4).

Yet, great dept minds at Toyota will figure out what works for them.

FWIW I still like our V comfort, space and style. Plus in Nor Cal traction, handling and ride height is okay.

 

The Rav actually has more space than the v behind the 2nd row (35.6 cu ft versus 34.3). I personally found it more useful for weekend trips to see family when we swapped out ‘12 v for a ‘14 Rav4.

The v is only dead when they stop making them, right?
Do we know if the last v for the USA has been made?
Is it only the USA market that does get a 2018 v?

 

I also find this to be true....all they want to do is sell you something that they have right there and now, and don't want to "waste time" talking about their future products. There are some exception's, of course...but I find them rare....

 

I hope Toyota knows what it's doing, for the last 12 years we were the only Prius on our Court.

Krasche - Thanks much for sharing your find of the "2019 Toyota Prius V Spied Looking Actually Handsome" article about what the article touts as being the Next Gen Prius v(vee).

My current 1st GEN, MY2012 Prius v(vee) will be close to reaching the 100,000-miles Traction Battery Warranty Expiration Mileage some time in 2019, so I will welcome a replacement GEN II v(vee) showing up for 2019. However, I will miss the more volumemetric "Wagon" shape with the lower step-in door sill height because Toyota is going "Crossover." Going "Crossover" will bring with it that sloped back hatch door window shown on "The Mule," which will cause the useable "Closed Door Cargo-Carrying Volume" to take a "Hit."

I am at a Lifetime 49.4 MPG indicated on my MY2012 running with the 1.8-liter four-cylinder powered Hybrid Synergy Drive. I hope Toyota sticks with the v(vee) sharing the Prius liftback's fuel-sipping 1.8-liter four-cylinder HSD engine, and does not opt to go with the larger, thirstier 2.5-liter four-cylinder in the Toyota Camry hybrid.

Yes but since the poster is in Sweden they may actually get it. We are pretty sure US and Puerto Rico are not get the new Prius v.

 

It's very possible those pics will become a new Rav 4 hybrid with decent mpg instead of the 32 it gets now.

 

I'd like to get that car...If I thought we'd get a piece of that action my strategy would be to hold the 2006. Otherwise I may get a used v. Now of course my opinion is not necessary shared by the rightful owner (DW).

 

When I park my v next to a RAV4 I'm struck by how huge the RAV4 is in comparison. When I drive either it or the CRV, they feel ponderous.

The reason I have a v is that it is the compromise between utility and economy that seems to fit what I do. In 5 years of ownership, I regularly visit the trash recycling place with a box of newspapers, a huge box of recyclables and 3 bags of trash plus assorted golf clubs. They fit. This week when the snow melts, I'll stick a '60s shag carpet in the back, lower the seats and take the Xmas tree to get it ground up. It has gone on many 250 to 400 mile trips but most of the starts are local 5-10 miles and back. I maintain it much better than Toyota would but I don't baby it. My dealer treats me well. We have 5 Toyotas in the immediate family.

I'd be a buyer for a same size v or whatever they call it, even a plug in version, but with more insulation and electronic nannies. But not a hatchback. If I wanted one of those, the Prius would suffice.
