Yeah, I think I'll wait until the power train warranty expires at 60k miles. I'm afraid Toyota will find out about the OCC and then put it in a database. Until then, the PCV valve and intake manifold can be removed and cleaned.

Interesting point, about warranty issues. Strange that it should have a bad rap though.

 

We all probably understand that an oil catch can is being done for good intentions, but still, it is tempering with factory emission equipment, thus can void warranty and fail emission test.

 

The funny thing is: a non-vented oil catch can does not increase emissions, and promotes engine longevity.

 

I have not install mine yet, but with the Ruien set there maybe couple more items you need before you can tackle this job. I am more of a visual kind of person, so here are some photos with ugly drawing, hopefully this can help while not having a video.

I am going to order the OCC. I want to order same as Danlatu but without the vent option. I hope that one works same as the one with filter options on the top.

Need to look for a mount option and hopefully extra 5 feet of hose will do the job.

Need to visit ACE hardware for the connector.

 

I put mine on the lower cross beam, just below the intake manifold and pcv valve. It's really not accessible from above, more intended to be checked during oil changes, with the engine underpanel removed:

Also, I went for an OCC with drain tap, this one's more expensive, but very nicely made:

(It only comes with about 3' of hose, which is enough for my install location, but probably not if you install to be accessible from the top. Just look below in the link, there's suggestions; you basically want 3/8" I.D. rubber fuel hose. Also, I found the bolts supplied for connection to the circular bracket were jamming, just purchased some 1/4" NC bolts from hardware store, plus 3/8" brass barb splice, plus clamps.)

 

I'd love to check, but I just don't see it happening soon. I have some vacation time coming up that I'm actually going to use as a vacation (meaningI'm going to one corner of the world and I'll go back to work exhausted), then a trip for work to another corner of the world right on the heels of that. I'll try to dig up some time and take a look.

In the meantime, it's Saturday morning and my motorcycles are calling to me. I must answer the call!

Yeah, I think so. Mine, supplied with the can, says SAE-30R7, but I think 6 is fine too, I've seen mention of both. Keep in mind, this hose is designed for gasoline, and in this application it's just air and vapour.

 

Looks like I am an early canidate for the catch can. At around 28.8K, I experienced a rough start twice within the last month. I haven't bothered to look at the throttle body yet. I want to make sure I have hours ahead of me and time off of work just in case.

 

Keep in mind too: 5' length will for sure work for a location nearby to the original hose. But if you're thinking to put the OCC up top, possible locations there are all pretty tight, and 5' might be ok, or not quite. If you could, for example get 10' for $15, I'd be inclined to do that, just so you're ready for anything, and in case you screw up, change your mind, whatever.

Unfortunately I can't find any 10 feet long from Amazon. I saw 25 feet long.

Okay. That will work.

 

In my Maintenance scenario I am going to clean the EGV cooler and replace the coolant from the inverter and engine.

So should I drain both of them and then clean the EGV cooler. Once all of the cleaning done then refill the inverter and coolant reservoir.

I am trying to understand the sequence of doing it.

Last Saturday car have Check Hybrid System and then went away by itself. Last night engine was vibrating while driving 50 miles. Then I hit hard on gas and it went away.
This morning no sign of that knock from last night.

Really nervous about the car. Hopefully it's not the end of my Prius.
