I’m still not sure what exactly happened here, but I’m pretty sure it’s related to my iPhone talking to my P.Prime.

Yesterday at work, after updating my iPhone to IOS 11.0.3 (not sure whether that in particular is related or not), I discovered that all of my iPhone playlists and albums consistently played shuffled whether I told it to shuffle or not.

The most recent playlist I played on my P.Prime I played shuffled, and I am pretty sure that had to do with it.

After noticing this, I got back into my P.Prime and noticed that the crossed-arrow shuffle button/Light was on with every playlist I chose. I could not turn it off! I would tap, or press and hold, the shuffle button to try to toggle it off, and at best it would go off for a few seconds then turn right back on. It seems Entune put the iPhone into some sort of permanent shuffle mode.

I did the 11.0.3 update yesterday morning, and the most recent playlist I’d played on my iPhone was played shuffled. I don’t know whether that had anything to do with it, but perhaps in some sense “etching in stone” the shuffledness of playlists. I’m inclined to doubt that it had any thing to do with this, but that’s the only unusual thing I can think of happening around that time.

Anyway, after quite a lot of repeated presses of the shuffle button on my P.Prime, the “light” on the shuffle button finally went off, and **I think at least** it’s back to normal now. I remember that I also did something else right before it started working again — something other than just hitting the shuffle button over and over at the time it stopped shuffling. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what exactly that semi-automatic additional action was...

My iPhone has been an unreliable audio source since upgrade to 11.x. The primary symptom, the Apple App, "Podcasts", plays one and then "Music" jumps in starting with the same song every time. Telling Siri to stop or pause "Music" gives about 5-10 seconds of relief and the "Music" App stomps on the silence again. I've even seen this sitting at a bar trying to catch up on my podcasts.

I am seriously thinking of deleting the "Music" App because I use podcasts for news. Music makes sense on long distance travel and I'm getting pissed. Now if I can put my music in on/in the Prius Prime, no problem. That is our cross country car.

iOS 11.1b3 here, no issues here. Every so often after listening to audiobooks in Prime when I come back it will blast the same song, first "a" song, when i start the car, but that's a known "bug".

Thankfully, other than this temporary shuffle issue, the only concern I see periodically is the “iPod” (USB/lighting) connection becoming unresponsive. Generally though, all I have to do is unplug and re-plug and it’s usually back.

Well, that, plus both wired and Bluetooth controls are slow: hit pause and it takes 2-3 seconds to respond.

Source: A silent, 10-minute song is climbing the iTunes charts

. . . a true internet hero named Samir Mezrahi released a song on iTunes that's just 10 minutes of silence -- and he named it "A a a a a Very Good Song." Since the iPhone starts playing music alphabetically when you plug it in to many car stereos, that usually means there's one song that you hear whether you want to or not. Many songs starting with the letter A have probably been ruined thanks to this quirk

Just paid $0.99 for it and am very happy. Take your time Apple, I am not longer in a rush ... Oh your IOS QA manager needs a different job, say telephone agent in the trouble reporting system.

I had 5 free credits from the iTunes Store... Now i have 4! Thanks Bob!!!

My previous "A" song BTW was "A) Gust of Mutts-The Mars Volta." Album was a gift from my daughters library. Now that will wake you up!!

If you're using the "mode" button on the steering wheel to pause, that's how it's supposed to work ("Press and hold").

That’s a great tip! Thanks again. It’s definitely a lot easier, **and safer**, than fuddling around to hit to touch-screen pause button!

You have to remember to press and hold, though, as you pointed out.

I do a fair amount of quiz-learning audios on the way to work and back, like Pimsleur Spanish, and some self-made Microtonal Music Theory and Ear-Training exercises. Sometimes I need “just a little more time” to answer the questions, so I hit the pause button **a lot**!

A related article: New engines, infotainment bugs hurting auto reliability
    • New technology in cars and trucks is making them less reliable, a Consumer Reports survey found.
    • Vehicle owners continue to be frustrated with new systems that are filled with bugs and glitches.
    • The survey is based on the impressions of more than 640,000 vehicle owners.
In effect, IOS 11.x is devolution.

Hmmm... The article seemed to be saying that, all in all at least, Toyota is doing comparatively well in this regard. I don’t think I saw anything about iOS 11 in particular in there.

Perhaps I’m just lucky, or am only using the most reliable features, but the infotainment-system difficulties I’ve seen have been fairly minor and fixable, or if not fixable (like the shuffle problem), then able to be routinely worked around (like pause being slow).

In the world of problems, for us this is a nit since there are acceptable workarounds. Rather, IOS 11 performs worse than IOS 10 as it requires more operator intervention. For example, my workaround, the 'sound of silence' (i.e., "A a a a a Very Good Song") still requires a delayed iPhone operation to get to the next podcast. Unlike many iPhone distracted drivers, I don't have to fiddle with it versus dealing with local traffic but I (and many of us) are somewhat skilled in this area. Had it been my wife, well that iPhone might have taken a short trip out the window (or through the windshield.)
