overall ev sales looking pretty disappointing, but i guess to be expected in the current environment.

Yeah, fusion on top is surprising. My guess: aggressive end of model year clearance sales.

But I think the bigger news is the RAV4h topping the Prius for the first time. (32mpg vs 52mpg)

Double digit gains year-over-year, month-over-month, not bad with current gas prices. Also, rates faster than initial hybrid adoption. Keep this up for a few years and plug-ins/EVs will be big players.

There has been a lot of adverse buzz about Tesla Model 3 production rates BUT that is just to distract from doubling Model X and S production.

overall hybrid take rate poor, and ev's in general not doing great. not unexpected in this climate.
the good news is all the forward thinking manufacturers who are planning dozens of new models for the near future.

Speculation: all the employees hired to build Model 3's with nothing to do* helping out the Model S/X production line to get trained

    * waiting for production glitches and other issues to get solved

The RAV4 sells that well? And is that the hybrid version? If so, then... dang!

Yes, the above chart only counts the hybrid version. The non-hybrid version outsells the non-hybrid Camry; however, the 2018 Camry redesign should fair better.

The Rav beating the Prius was sooner than I expected, but the Prime played a part.

There isn't extra incentives for hybrids, and efficient cars always tended to lose out when fuel prices are low. So I include hybrids in with the ICEs now, and with the coming mild systems, the public likely will too.

that's fine. one can say that plug in's are increasing, but if the increase is coming from the decrease in hybrids, how much are we advancing.

Having tasted a plug-in hybrid, I'm not going back to an ordinary hybrid any more than I would have gone from hybrid to gasser/diesel.

there you go. same here, so we have hybrid owners switching to plug ins. with all the hoopla are we making a dent in gasser sales?

I’m not so sure I care. The gasser/diesel owners are rapidly burning off the cheap oil. Meanwhile I’ve got mine and they are both about $0.025 per mile yet still go long distances as needed.

i care because of the environment. i don't drive hybrids and plug ins to save money. waiting for the end of cheap oil is costly.

Also consequence of making Gen4 Prius more sedan-like so Fusion competes, although I wonder if the cargo space is the same.
