I cut the original hose, and spliced in new hose with whats called a "barb splice". They don't call them barb for nothing: they're almost a permanent connection, it's very hard to coax a hose back off them, if you change your mind about anything. What I did was knock the edges off the "barb" with a flat file, and also put a sparing amount of silicon dielectric compound on it.

The hose I splice in was supplied with the OCC, I believe it's fuel line. The only thing: Moroso kind-of cheaped out, only supplied about 3'. 6' would be nice, for more flexibility, if you want to mount for access from above. The label on it says:

    SAE-30R7 - KX078698508818 - MADE IN U.S.A. (and a numerical date)

@danlatu says it doesn't really matter if the OCC is higher or lower than the original plumbing, but still, I've got a hunch if the detour is downward about 8", then down through a labyrinth, around the underside of a baffle, up through another labyrinth, then up another 8" of hose before it's back on the on regular path, gravity maybe helps.

Addendum: added red portion of hose label, missed it earlier.

Did you use the original for the end at the intake manifold, where it flares out to bigger diameter? Is it 3/4", I believe so, but think I neglected to do a careful measurement. I like the concept of using the original hoses, at the original ends, for a few reasons:

They have the correct inside diameters, both ends, no problem there. They have elbows. The have nice clips, easy to pull back, easy to then pull the hoses off. I wouldn't mind having similar spigots at the OCC and at the splices. Much easier to work with than those #%*! hose barbs.

I am getting ready to get this done, but need to find the free time first, then arrange to borrow my father in law's shared garage for a day.

Same OCC as Danlatu's recommendation, $52 from Amazon.

Or if you want to wait until the next meetup (tentatively November 11th), you'll have a garage and plenty of willing helpers(y).

I will try to be at next meetup, needing works on my car or not. Reason I wanna get this OCC done ahead of time is my #2 baby is due in about 3 weeks, I will be super busy afterwards. And knowing a meetup is coming soon, I will have something to fall back on if I cant get this done soon. :D Of course, to attend the meetup, I will have to get a permit from wifey first.

    3 weeks, eh:)?

If it were 5 weeks you could pull a @mmmodem and attend the day before the birth;).

We were all surprised Mrs. Mmmodem let him come:whistle:.

But get permission and not ask for forgiveness in this case;). Let us know if we can help(y).

Would tell you to just bring the baby, though it might be even harder to get that permit :cautious:

Guessing 80% of past meetup attendees currently have (or have had) babies within the last 18 years, but I could be off by 10%.

Of course @mmmodem is the man with all hands on deck at this point, and most likely has all the gadgets and gizmos to get the party started

Not sure. What about the hose between PCV valve and intake manifold, any mod there?

    Find it confusing.

Why is there a white "one-way" arrow from the T-Rex device pointing into the intake and then another red arrow pointing into the crank case?

And why isn't the PCV shown as a one-way?

    @RightOnTime:

If the red arrows are correct in your check valve diagram, this would force more air through the PCV valve. It would create more oil loss by forcing more oil mist through the PCV. We're trying to keep our intakes clean by removing oil mist.

Besides this is an "Oil Catch Can" thread. I don't see an OCC in this diagram.

    Just throwing it out there.

This unit is specific for the Gen 3 & Gen 4 Prius which is researched and designed in Japan.

Yes, this may be an 'Oil Catch Can' thread - just 'thinking outside the Box' and was wondering if this was a better version.

I have seen this piece on several cars in Japan and thought that we in the States might be a couple of steps back of keeping our intakes clean by removing oil mist.

Just remember that in Japan they have a bunch of time and resources in R&D to produce many parts for the Prius that is not found in the States.

Will keep everyone updated if i find more info.

Btw - this thread is awesome!!

So you're doing nothing to the lower circuit, between PCV valve and intake manifold? The consensus is that lower line is where the majority, if not all of the oil is coming from.
