Akio Toyoda recently spoke about a plug-in (Prime?) Sportscar coming from Toyota!! Be still my heart!! To whom do I send my $1000 deposit?? I must have one, NOW!! .
Yeah, but it's supposed to be a COUPE!! No more JUMBO WAGONS for me; I gotsa have a 2 seater!! I'll compromise with a 2+2. Think of a hatchback with a huge battery in back!!! More Power!! Lighter weight!! Better mileage, more FUN! .
I was trying to find the original article; the car you show here is, I believe, one of Toyota's Gazoo racing hybrids. They're planning on marketing "dolled up" hybrids; who cares; we need true coupe plugins! . And of course, any ENHANCED hybrids, plug-in or otherwise seem to be destined for Japan. Hey!! We've got a little money here in the U.S., and there are still 1 or 2 of us car enthusiasts still alive!! How about it, Toyota!! Honda has given up on really cool cars (at least for now; and don't talk to me about that ridiculous new Type R Civic... with front drive!!!). Toyota Save Our Souls !!
I have my eye on my friends VW Karmen Kia that he wants to sell. I was going to buy it after my tax return and soup up the motor.
I can see it now!! A Karmann Ghia with Prius Prime Advanced drive train. Yeah, it should be a simple, and cheap straightforward conversion that you could do in your sparetime!! .
I found the car for you. E.T. drove home: Master mechanic makes space-age vehicles suitable for alien invaders from donor cars | Daily Mail Online
Mr. Salamander, thanks for the link!! Some very pretty cars there and did notice that he converted a Prius! It would really be cool if he could sell his design to be used for a Prime, and executed by Toyota in carbon fiber, for strength and light weight! .
What I meant was I was going to make an old Karmen Ghia a fun project car, but now I may just jump in line for a Prime..........
Hey Mr. Bisco, check out his link; that guy's car-conversions appear to be real. I'm just a wishful stinker, er, thinker who hopes for a Prime coupe sportscar!! It appears that Toyota chief, Akio Toyoda is thinking about hybrid sportscars. .
I had to check my eyes with the 2nd picture. The reverse light made the picture look like it had a mismatched segment. Perhaps a preview to the mid-life update Prime styling? (at least the front. The rear is too garish).
I would expect a Prius sports car when the batteries have three times more energy, one third the size and weight and one third the cost. Does Moore's Law apply to battery technology?
That's the GR Sport rendition of the Prime. They also will have GR Sport versions of another half dozen car models. But... only available in Japan, folks. Toyota introduces sport-tuned Prius Prime, 86, Yaris in Japan - NY Daily News
That 86 Coupe that Toyota has out would be a perfect candidate for a Prime conversion! Of course the entire body should be made out of carbon fiber so that the car would not weigh more than say 2000 pounds. 60Kwh battery, Recaros, full instruments, and hang on Martha we're goin' racin'!! I'll send in my check as soon as I get the address! .
You know, initially I had intended on selling my '09 Corolla S to move to a Scion tc until they announced they weren't producing it anymore. I wanted something sportier than a Corolla but not as sporty as the FRS/86. I like the 86 but it's very much a "sports car" type in that the inside is boring and basic. It was certainly fun to drive but I could feel, for me, it would get old fast. That's when I learned about the Prime (before it was actually released) and got excited. If they could make something a little sportier than the Prime but with all the same technology / luxuries, I'd definitely switch. (Or if they made an all electric vehicle)
