There doesn't need to be any fancy explanation for IPv4 addresses getting shared around. That's the normal state of affairs.

You typically need to pay a higher rate to an ISP to get an address that doesn't change and is statically associated with you. Most people don't, unless they run services on their computers that other people need a static address to connect to.

This is all quite true. @TonyPSchaefer may also be seeing the effects of ISPs or large companies using carrier-grade network address translation (CGN), which routes many users’ connections through a limited number of gateways, exposing only the IP addresses of the latter on the public Internet. Several of the IP addresses in the screen captures belong to T-Mobile, and they are known to use this technology, which avoids the need to assign, even temporarily, a unique, globally-routable IPv4 address to each subscriber.

Another possible explanation, since PriusChat uses the Cloudflare content-delivery network, is that these IP addresses actually belong to servers that Cloudflare has placed inside (for example) T-Mobile’s network. I don’t know if the PriusChat origin servers have been set up to recognize the CF-Connecting-IP HTTP header that Cloudflare adds to identify visitors’ IP addresses, but if not, perhaps they should be.

Dang! Back when I was working on ARPANET, an IP address was 8 bits. Nameservers didn't exist - names were compiled into every site's code. Baby's grown a bit.

A few other famous last words...

Why would you need 1200 baud? You can't read that fast.

640Kb is more memory than you could ever use.

Men don't need to learn how to type. They'll have secretaries to do that.

    Dial phone now.

Ethernet will never work. With packets wandering aimlessly, some are bound to get lost.

When I use my AT&T cell connection, anywhere in the Midwest or Colorado, the IP pops out of Texas. My T-Mobile line usually ends up in the nearest big city to where I am. Both of those IPs are publicly (what you're seeing) the same for tens of thousands of people, just the subnet IPs to the phones are different.

When in university or at work, everybody in the building has the same IP address for the same reasons on a smaller scale.

Ontop of that, lots of VPN use and Tor use means IPs pop out from all over.

Using IP addresses to determine these types of things is completely archaic in today's day and age. It just plainly doesn't work.

So it's settled. TonyShafer is the actual clone & it's his evil twin that's trying to take the rest of us down & it's HIS account that must be deleted.
    Buaahahaha.....
EDIT: i wonder if posts made via Tap a talk (mine are maybe 70%) are part of the cause .... though this edit is being made via Disney's server. Gotta mix it up to keep Tony off the scent.

Interesting, I first joined in '05, and I have multiple accounts because Prius chat kept cancelling them, or changing my name, and now it turns out as I knew all along, it was tony, he changes my conversations and deletes my username, where's the profit in that?

Dangit! My devious plan has been discovered. That's what I get for drawing attention to myself.

Oh sure, I lose on individual transactions but I make it up in volume! ;)

i was really hoping you were going to bag a couple of these thorns. it's easier to discern them from their posts, than their ip addresses.

All three Five of those six of those IP address are in the 172.32.0.0/11 netblock, TMO9, owned by T-Mobile USA. The other one is in the 204.128.192.0/24 netblock, DISNEY-BUR5, owned by Disney Worldwide Services.

Cellular IP addresses are highly dynamic (and, as @Elektroingenieur pointed out, carrier-grade NAT is likely in play, basically guaranteeing collisions), so I wouldn't rely on them for rooting out duplicate accounts.

Not sure about the Disney one, though.

I wonder if I could shake down T-Mobile for some cash for this besmirch'ing of my impeccable character.

To be clear, Hill, my intentions were not in any way an attempt to besmirch your impeccable character. You just happened to be lumped in when I was researching others. I've already said too much.
