Do remember that at this early point in time, we'd be hearing from only the folks who dodged it, not from those who took the worst of it.

i have heard from a number of friends and relatives, and watched various weather reports and locations. this could easily have been a lot worse. a lot worse.
i'm not saying there aren't some individuals who didn't dodge, but there could have been thousands or even hundreds of thousands.
look at the forecasts, compared to the result. florida is very fortunate, but it won't always be.

We did indeed. For years, I've dreaded the day when a cat 4 or 5 comes right up Tampa Bay. That'll cost multiple trillions of dollars. We came very close to that happening this time. Instead, it sucked almost all the water out of the bay.

Really glad it wasn't worse for you. Lots of my friends are still in the dark. I know one family w/o water now. I didn't lose fence, but it got rocked back & forth to the point the post holes are wallowed out. Need to fix that tomorrow. We were very blessed. Apparently our power only blipped last night according to the neighbors. Where we were staying, it went off for at least an hour yesterday in the afternoon, long before the storm arrived.

I'm sure glad I wasn't in Key West or Marathon Key.

Do remember, though, that the news people focus on the damage. They don't usually like showing good news. In this case, I think they had to search a lot harder then they expected to to find any damage that would sell advertising. I saw them waxing eloquent quite often about the horrors of trailer house lanais being torn off when they were thinking they'd be showing grocery stores ripped to shreds.

I spent the Hurricane in Sorento with my GF. We lost power about 10:30pm on Sunday night, it still wasnt back on when I left her place this morning. My house was fine, just no power either. My neighbor lost his car port. Lots of trees down everywhere. Took me twice as long to get home this morning because alot of roads are closed due to downed trees and power lines.

I dug out a really old cheap 500 watt inverter I had. Its hooked up to my prius and running my mini fridge, my internet modem, and a box fan. Most amps it has pulled is about 16 and its putting out a consistent 121volts. My UPS battery back ups dont like it (probably because of its SINE wave) and wont charge or pass power through. And when I connect my power conditioner to it it just reads "Low Power". Not sure why as its getting 121 volts, maybe because of the SINE wave. I may see if tonight it will power my window AC all by itself, but I doubt it. It didnt even have the umph to power up my desktop computer.

Glad you're OK and your house, too. Clever idea! I suspect that, since it's a really old inverter, the output is too jagged for most electronics, but electric motors don't care all that much.

Power is finally back on! Got the AC going. I think this is the year I just spend the money and buy a damn generator.

That usually helps. Once I finally bought a good snow blower in Ohio, it was 6-7 years before we got more than 3-4 inches of snow. :ROFLMAO:

I was away from the TV today, but on-line it looks like they are finding quite substantial damage now.

I think a lot of the damage will be from houses and businesses that got water blown in under the doors but have no electricity to run fans & dry it out.

flooded area's seem to be the worst. trees and power lines elsewhere. it was a hurricane. could have been a lot worse though.
rebuild, wait for the next one, rinse and repeat.

Let's just keep building million dollar mansions in hurricane flood zones and cry when the get washed or blown away.

my father was pretty fortunate. spent 3 nights without power in wildwood, and got back to his place in estero yesterday and the power was on. lights, a/c, hot water, happy camper. no damage that he could see on the bus ride except for branches down.
my brother, who lives up the street from them, is still waiting for power. they must have made the assisted living place a priority.
