You are correct, with a Dorman battery, no swap or techstream required. The Toyota batteries generally don't come with the ECUs and require them to be swapped.

@ericbecky , if you install a new toyota battery for a customer, and they have a problem in the first year, can they return it to toyota without going through you?

Hold on guys. That image is in reference to pairing a new Hybrid Control ECU which is different from the HV Battery ECU. There is no pairing or programming required on the HV Battery ECU.

NEW batteries DO NOT come with ECU's. You have to move your ECU over to the new pack as well as all of the control relays and vent tube. I'll dig up a picture of a new battery as received from Toyota. I truly hope there's not a dealer in Texas selling the KBI/Toyota rebuilds.

Concerning proof of new and S/N verification I can tell you that I understand 110% why somebody would want to verify that when they are spending such a large amount of money. Every owner that buys from me gets an invoice from Toyota with their VIN and the pack S/N on it. If they want to see the modules and S/N's I'm more than happy to show them. In fact I like when owners want to see that stuff because it means they've done their research.

I thought the OP said Hometown Hybrids is covering Parts AND Labor.

That is above and beyond the Toyota warranty, so it makes sense that it would only go through Hometown Hybrids.

When buying a Toyota part across the counter I would expect it may only be a part warranty. I've never had to make a labor claim with them.

Also, I suppose even the part warranty with Toyota may be tied to the location where it was purchased.

Again, though, I have never seen a brand new Toyota hybrid battery fail in a year so it is kind of a moot discussion.

And I'd also like to say that I hope through this thread the OP can see that I am not some shill for crooks. I've been around this forum a long time.

You came in here asking advice. I gave an honest answer and staked my reputation on providing an honest referral. I can't help the fact that you don't know me personally, but I'm not sure what else you expected. Faceless usernames posting their two cents.

This is what a new Gen 2 Prius battery looks like in the crate. The bag contains the new main leads and safety plug leads. The whole end of the battery that holds the ECU and relays must be transferred from another pack.

Texas Hybrid Batteries, have you ever had to make a labor claim with Toyota for a hybrid battery?

Aftermarket parts companies (like Dorman for example) often allow labor claims if the newly purchased part fails upon installation.

No. And I'm 99.9% sure that I'll never have to.

I don't think you're a shill whatsoever, and I appreciate your advice. I wanted to confirm the batteries are new before install, trust or not.

Long story short, it was a refurb someone else bought and shipped for the dealer to install. They accidentally installed the new one for the person instead. Lucky person out there with a new battery they aren't aware of.

The container was red-orange and had a sticker that said "redirect" on it with postage dates. I was not able to take photos since I was rushing to get it back but there where definitely H cells.

Dang. I was hoping to see more photos of these in the wild.

Glad we helped work with you to share some knowledge. I'm sure most other folks would have been none the wiser about the pack they received.

    Bisco,
As far as Dorman labor. That mainly applies to initial install of a part done by paid mechanics. Not necessarily DIYers.
