Let me clarify. This is what I'm driving now actually. I got rid of the '16 Prius a while back (hence no posts from me for a while because of it). The Highlander SE. Love it, but a few things I hate. The Stop Start feature, big HP V6, but struggles to keep up when I ask for more power at times. I get 380 miles out of the 16 gallons. Would I get the Prime in place of this. Probably. Why? I love the Prius culture, technology and everything about it. If I could drive to work and back and barely ever use gas ....that would be killer. But yet the Prime isn't a full EV which I really like. I would lose a ton of cargo, but my wife has a '16 RAV4 SE for that when needed. Am I making a mistake?
Everything is a compromise. That's why my Wife is driving a new 2017 RAV4 Hybrid Limited....but I like her nice person.
I think it's one of the ugliest cars in production from the rear and much better than my 2007 from the front. I have a vette for aesthetics. This is for efficiency and commuting and I couldn't ask for a better car for those purposes. You aren't buying it for its stunning good looks.
The GEN4 and Prime are ugly, and sales reflect that, but word has it she's great in bed. So if you don't mind the light being off...
Acceleration....ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha (okay, I'm done). There isn't a ton of room in the trunk compared to a normal Prius. If you want decent room, superior looks and acceleration and 30 mpg, get a WRX, manual of course. That's my favorite of our cars right now. You can survive with the Prime shopping but you likely will need the back seats.
Prime is slow rolling out. The closest one I could find was 250 miles away. I love the 12" screen, the tech and the fact that I work 11 miles away so 25 miles on EV is perfect!
I love it, I really do, but we need to take it for what it is. I have 2500 miles on it in two weeks and will drive it 50k/year. There is no other car I could imagine abusing like that. My Subaru would explode in a year or two at most. Our 2007 Prius is at 473k miles and then some (miles from when the dash didn't work).
Going from 2016 Prius, to highlander, to Prime: are there any mitigating factors? That seems a little outa control, and no offence: I've been there. Just back off for a bit? Devils advocate: I'd get another Prius, screw how it looks, going full circle.
I've driven it in all conditions. I work in Westchester and drove it on snow covered roads when the schools were closed, it was so bad outside. I was fine. Once again, 30 mpg, zero to sixty in 5 seconds, all wheel drive, awesome transmission with the short throw shifter...buy a WRX if you drive the normal 12k miles per year, $25,000 if you bargain hard. I only own the Prius because my job is so far away.
I hear you saying I should keep my Highlander lol. Let's put it this way if the Prime was available when I bought the HL guess which one I would have bought. I said screw it. It was a spur of the moment. But I will always be loyal to Prius. I reallllyyyy wish it had a moonroof like the Gen 4's, lol. Did you see what I current drive.
Please read my post #21 in this section re. Cargo Capacity! My Prime thinks it's an EV since I mostly drive around the city. It all depends on your driving style; my EV range is currently 36 miles. The best thing is my overall range between gasoline fill ups averages 1500 miles, every month and a half!! No range anxiety and I got my cake and ate it too!! .
I drive on the streets 90%, highway 10%. How should I do it since my job is 11 miles each way. Charge each night I take it? Weekend driving could be 60% highway 40% city. 70-100 miles total.
For that short of a commute I'd spend my money instead on a nice road bike! Much more fun and looks way better than any car.
