I've had a 2017 Three for about 1.5 months now and I've noticed the brakes make a super loud click when I stop. It's not always. Maybe when I'm approaching a stop light and stop at the end. I'm not slamming on the brakes just coasting to a stop and the final press down I hear the brakes.

Is this normal? I've never had a brand new car before so is this maybe just wearing them in?

doesn't sound right. maybe a pebble stuck in there? worth taking a look at the front brakes.

Has it been doing the noise pretty much since you got it? Can you localize where the sounds coming from: front, rear, left. right, or maybe right at the pedal or around firewall zone?

I'd agree, not right. Drop by dealership and let them test drive. Unfortunately "not always" will work against you, but hopefully they can determine something.

Does the clicking noise vary with speed (very fast and then down to hardly anything at 3 MPH) when slowing down less than 30 MPH coming from the drivers side? I was told its the regen inverter and this noise is normal (two dealerships told me this anyway). If you shift it into Neutral the noise does not happen, at least on mine. Mine started around 6K

So trying to google my issues I came across this guy who pretty much had the same issue as me and put it in better words:
"When I depress the brake naturally from a full stop it makes this creaking sound. I also experience it sometimes when having the brake down and the car slowing from just a couple of mph to 0. But mostly it's when letting off the pedal from a full stop."

He had an older car and had just changed his pads and rotors and other brake part words.

I did not get a chance to take the car out today to note where exactly the noise is coming from but I'll check tomorrow and report back my findings. Thanks!!

Most of your braking comes from regeneration of electricity and this can cause a sort of noise, but below about 5mph the regeneration switches to hydraulic brakes. This has a different deceleration force and another possible noise from the pads on the rotor disk with a sort of click as they stop rotating.

maybe it's just the brake pedal spring, i get that sometimes.

but this last description is greatly different from the o/p's 'super loud click when i stop'.

Does it happen every time or just when coming to a stop facing uphill ?
I'm thinking hill start assist coming into operation.

Is hill-hold activated just by the car pointing uphill on gen 4?

On 3rd gen it's activated (solely) by extra hard push on brake pedal, on the flat or on a slope is not a factor, and significantly more pedal pressure is required; I can't see it being something you would do inadvertently.

Yes on Gen 4 it's automatically engaged, you just let go of the brake, no need to press it down hard like on the gen 3. It still only engages for a couple of seconds, the same as before.

You're lucky, mine needs a good firm hoof to activate it. I don't mind really it's just practice for when I need an emergency stop! ;)

Bottom line is it doesn't bother me. Maybe I just floor it out of habit, I don't know! (n)

Try it next time you're out stopped on a hill, just gently let go of the brake instead of pressing it, you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's quite good once you get used to it and it saves you spraining your ankle, it's definitely easier on SWMBO's arthritis. (y);)

That's interesting, that hill hold activates on fourth gen, just from being on an incline. Do you get a light on the dash, some indication that hill hold is activated?

I'm wondering too: what's the threshold, how much incline, or is pretty much always? I'd hate like hell to take foot off the brake and it wasn't holding, lol.

or, you could go with the sound posted in #6, but that was an older car.
