Prolong Battery conditioning kit

    I know this is going to be a total newbie question, but I've had the car less than a week soooo......Where is the SoC average figure located? I'd like to keep an eye on that.

    @WilDavis has a Scanguage, which is a device that attaches to the OBD2 port;).

    I just monitor the HSI display and can see a difference in performance (y).

    Here you go: (not one of mine, so thanks to whomever I nicked it from! :rolleyes:) I have a ScanGauge-II which I can see the SoC on an X-Gauge (see threads passim)!

    Oh okay, I was hoping that was something built into the car that I had overlooked. One of those push this than that, press the brake, push this, hold your eyes just right, and it shows up on the screen. Lol

    I'll have to look into the scan gauge II. I'm very interested in getting a tool that I can easily plug into the car and get an idea of how the battery is doing.

    I found my second SG-II on eBay for less than $100, it had old firmware, but Linear-Logic customer support came through and upgraded it for FREE :eek: (normally $25) so, let's hear it for Linear-Logic!! (see threads passim for other stories about Linear-Logic and their great Customer Support) :)

    This advice was for 44zoomer in particular. For general preventive maintenance, just follow the guide on the HA website.

    Instead of the two lines and 8bit graphics in the scanguage, why not just use an old android phone running torque and ELM327 bluetooth with USBseawold PID's setup to get much more info, real time of course and customized the way you want it? Old android phones are much cheaper and the display is dramatically better.

    I'm sure you're absolutely right, but I don't have an old Android phone, neither do I have all the bits and bobs to do what you suggest! Perhaps I'll do what you suggest and run it on my Android tablet, but at the moment, I think my next project might be the "Turn Signal/Rear Camera" tweak, as seen in Ye Olde Prius Shoppe (Toyota Prius Turn Signal / Hazard Rear Camera Activation Kit w/ Navigation Override - All Models - PriusChat Shop) - but thanks for the suggestion! :)

    Actually, I contacted Hybrid Automotive and was told they recommend 3 cycles for all batteries. (I didn't find it on their website.)

    The website is speaking of 3 discharge cycles, not 3 reconditioning cycles (as Jeff stated in post #29 of this thread).

    I agree, however, I have found I can do the same thing by climbing the 4144 foot Tejon pass on the 5 freeway in CA twice a week @ 75 mph! Shhhh, the speed limit is 65!

    It is just not possible to do any kind of conditioning in the car. It only allows a use window between 40% and 80% SoC and it is this use pattern that allows the outboard conditioning to make any kind of difference.

    You are just splitting hairs.

    To do the second and third discharges, you have to charge back up in between, therefore each one is a charge/discharge cycle. After the last discharge a final charge is done to finish the job.

    I have run the battery down to 32% SOC with "normal" driving, does that count?

    With OBD2 and Android App. Engine starts at 40% SOC to recharge, but if you have steep uphill and you mash the accelerator to the floor SOC will go down further, don't know how much further because I ran out of hill.

    I notice you have a Gen III posting in the Gen II forum. Can't speak to what a Gen III does, but my gut would say this is not the best way to treat your HV battery.

    Each to their own.
