Ok so when i drive in EV Auto mode, it behaves exactly as EV mode.. it uses up all ev miles before it switches to hv mode and turns on the ICE.

So for me its just fine to default to EV mode....

that's odd, unless your route just happens to be one that the car thinks is fine for ev. does it warm up the engine when you switch to ev auto?

    Not that I can tell.
Will experiment with it tomorrow.... but it's hard to miss the ICE coming on...

As far as not switching on the ICE during EV auto driving... I don't put a high demand on it... keeping acceleration within the blue band, sometimes less. I might just spend some gas and try stomping on it in EV auto mode and see what happens.

I just checked the manual on EV Auto mode conditions where the ICE will come on... It's the way I drive I guess. I have it set to ECO mode... I don't drive over 55 on my daily route... Wont have it up to 65 till a trip for labor day... wont have it up to 70 till a trip to DC...
I don't press firmly on the accelerator or ask for high acceleration.
The battery has been neither too hot or cold.
The only time I used the defogger was in plain EV mode.

I've mainly been driving in EV mode, and experimented with EV Auto mode... so I may no have been on routes that needed the ICE.. like climbing a hill while accelerating.. what I did there was change my route to avoid the hill anyways...

I only tried EV Auto once, and I got so much worse gas mileage that day that I haven't even thought about it again and instead switch manually between EV and HV at appropriate parts of my commute.

The only reason i can think of that I got worse gas mileage is that I used EV in the fastest part of my commute, so that cut my total electric range too much. I never really felt any acceleration differences anyway, so EV Auto just doesn't work for me.

I just don't see a difference between EV and EV Auto. The car behaves the same way... It uses up the EV miles then switches to HV mode. I have never seen it switch between EV and HV while in EV Auto.

EV-Auto is supposed to be like EV mode on the Gen I PiP: Primarily EV, but if you step on the gas hard enough, it is supposed to engage the ICE.

Sounds cool. I'll probe the CAN bus and find the packet that enables the EV Auto function and write a little patch to enable it with Openpilot. Should be an easy first hack for me to tackle.

Old thread, but my PRIME started in HV almost every morning for winter months. TOO COLD to start on EV even if charged full. It is almost like EV Auto isn't it??? lol:LOL:
