Should we wait a while before plugging in?

Lol, I am at 15% EV usage over about 45k KM since I got mine about 14 months ago, and that is with charging at every opportunity my L2 charger, but I drive 100-150km day and rarely have opportunity charging during the day.

But at least the PIP is still very efficient in HV mode.

I believe the "timer" function is more geared to those who have variable electricity rates, and allows them to charge, say at night, when the rates are lower.

I try to charge when I return so if I need to make a trip my car has a full charge.

It is not good on lithium battery chemistry to leave a battery at or near full for very long (especially when heat is an issue). This has been known for as long as lithium batteries have been around.

I used to do this when I had a favorable time of use plan (TOU). Now I just charge immediately afterwards.

I'm not overly concerned with battery longevity as the PiP does not allow charging past 85% at the top and the bottom is limited by HV mode. My ~15% battery degradation over 5 years and ~2000 charge cycles is exemplary.

It's not defined in the owner's manual.

It's a process, so there isn't some magic number where it all of a sudden becomes bad.

And again, being at 85% (which is what the Prius is at max) for a while isn't near as bad as 100% (like the Leaf or your cell phone) for that same amount of time.

Right. It's not like leaving it charged up one time will kill it. But the cumulative effect of doing it over and over will slowly take a toll compared to storing it where it's in an HV only state of charge. It'll stay stronger longer that way.
