I'm back from my road trip to Oregon for the eclipse. The total eclipse was a wondrous and spectacular sight. I had a really good time visiting my sister for a few days. So here's the dope on my 2002 Prius with 200+ thousand miles. With the exception of a glitch in Klamath Falls, it was everything I expected and beyond. Round trip and incidental local driving put about 3300 on the odo. I didn't limit or reduce the average speed, ran 75 quite a bit of the time. It's fantastic on hills, ones that would make my V8 Dakota lose speed, the Prius climbed with no problem and no loss of speed. And passing, it was mostly 2 lane roads, it has amazing power to kick it from 50's to the 80's to make passing safe and easy. The driver's seat doesn't cripple me up on long trips. The cruise control makes long days possible. The glitch was that the car got to Klamath Falls and wouldn't start. The red triangle of death was on, as well as the warning on the energy screen. Took about 45 minutes, perhaps to cool off, but it restarted. The warning lites stayed on, but it ran normally. So I drove it on to Reno. In Reno, I shut it off at my nieces house and ate some dinner. After dinner, I went out and started it--all the warning lites were gone! It has performed normally since, and made it home to Tucson with no more problems. Probably will never know what was wrong, but it gave me a scare 1000 miles from home! I've said it, thought it before. It's a great little car! One of my lifetime favorites. And it averaged 41 mpg over the entire trip.
My OBDII blue tooth reader stays in the Prius. If it ever pops a code I can plug it in, connect to my Torque App in my phone and have the code and clear it if needed. I recommend getting one. They are cheap and very useful.
Yeah, I had my little laptop with the mini vci along. Plugged it in and couldn't quite get what was ailing it. Of course it was in the sun, and the temp was about 95*. I doubt it logged any info, either. The lights have all gone away.
the forum software doesn't let us post links. The one I have is the BAFX plug in bluetooth dongle. Available at Amazon for $21.99. Comes with instructions and pairs up with my Galaxy S5 easily. I use Torque Pro, too. It's excellent. For t he Prius, tho, I use the minivci with the software installed on an ancient Dell with Windows XP.
