Yes it is a pain to not have the Pressure display. Even Chevy Cruze has it. The TPMS is quite nice technology if you get to see the tire pressure and temps all the time. My guess is Toyota designers are Japan-oriented and either they do not use TPMS or do not need to see pressures because they just check it all the time.

 

my tires never go low enough to set the light off, unless i have a leak.in that case, a readout would be superfluous.

 

The TPMS warning light comes on when the pressure drops by 20%, so I initialize my TPMS at a higher pressure than I run at, then let the tyres down to my running pressure and the light comes on as soon as the pressure drops below my normal running pressure. I make sure I do this with cold tyres or a drop in temperature will bring the light on.
E.g.17" rims: front tyre pressure should be 32 psi, I run at 35 so I initially pump them up to 42 psi, rears should be 30 psi I run at 33 so I put in 40 psi, then initialize the TPMS. This means the fronts will trigger the light at just under 34 psi and the rears at 32 psi. So when I let my tyres down to my running pressures of 35 front and 33 rear, I will get a warning light if I lose 1 psi.
I do this because I'm not happy with as much as a 20% pressure loss before being warned, but if you want more tolerance on the pressure loss then don't quite pump them up as much for the initilization.

 

That is only a good idea if you do not exceed the maximum sidewall pressure. I run my 15" wheels at 39 but max for tire is 44.

 

You could still get a closer tolerance if you set the tyres to 44 psi to initialize, then drop down to 39 psi, your light would come on at 35 psi, which is only a 10% loss.

 

42/40 for mine. Averaging 47-48 mpg, had a 50.6 last week in a 2013 v. But I also use E0 gas.
