I know that no one can help. The dealer says it is not a problem.
But my fuel door will not stay open during refuleing. it flops closed
at the slighest movement and is really annoying.
I own two identical Prius 2017 model 2. So one of them has some tension in the fuel/gas
door and it stays open until I choose to close it.
The other one has a loose floppy fuel/gas door that swings closed during refueling.
It is pretty annoying because I must always have one hand free to hold it open when inserting
    the nozzle or removing it.
Anyway,I know no one has an answer, I. studied this quite closely looking for a missing or misaligned part but no such luck.
The door is held on with a riveted hinge so not easy to take out and inspect.
Eventually I will improvise some kind of material to insert that will give the desired tension.
    Thanks for listening.

If the car with problem is one of the 2017s then get it back to the dealer to rectify. It's under warranty, do you don't want to modify it yourself first.

I had the car in for the 10k service and had the dealer inspect the fuel door. They insist it is just fine and they took no action at all.
The TSB listed is for the latch. And plenty of articles exist for people having trouble getting doors to open, latches that do not release. Could not find one article at all about loose hinges and door that close easily. So I made this post hoping there might be another person with this problem.

you can go to another dealer. it is illegal to not fix a problem under warranty. call toyota customer service, be nice, tell them how many you have owned, they should take care of it. if not, demand satisfaction, and call your state attorney generals consumer affairs office. all the best!

A little candle wax in the hinge might help if there is no other fix.

The post described replacing the hinge spring with a stronger one. The part number is included too. That should also prevent the door from flopping around, I would expect.
Have you been able to compare with another car?

Maybe it's missing a spring or a tensioner?

Apparently some had a weak spring resulting in a TSB.

Do they both have this issue? If not, there is definitely something amiss and it would be a warranty issue.

Yeah I like the try another dealership recommendation. And get Toyota involved if that doesn't work, but i suspect it will. You might want to adopt the other dealer for all future business too.

That shouldn't be. Isn't this the second report??
