I went into the dealer earlier in the month for a (reluctant) test drive. After the drive we started discussing price & they were asking $5k over sticker. I laughed & walked out. 7-8 PM Jan 31st that same sales person called saying they were willing to negotiate as long as I bought before 10 PM that night. Sticker was $34,556.90 plus TTT. I got it for $30,679.18 out the door (TTT included)
sticker was $34,556? Did you get an Advanced model? Because $30.679.18 is MSRP for a Plus ( actually $27,100.00)
Here's the highres version of the same picture (much easier to see the details): http://www.comajoe.com/images/ComaJoe-PrimePlusStickerPrice.png
well, hey, you save $4000.00 over 5 years so you would only be $1000.00 in the hole if you paid $34,556.00
ComaJoe, my Plus had some dealer addons too, some of which are at least somewhat useful (all-weather floor mats, rear hatch all-weather floor mat), look nice (a rear bumper applique for $75) as well as a totally useless ripoff (Dollar-store sticky tape protectors for $195). Still, got it for below MSRP (in SoCal, which is rare). Total out the door -- including tax, doc fee, transportation -- everything (in Calif) was $29.4 (then there are $6,450 in fed, state, and local power co rebates coming, plus $4,600 selling my old car privately). The dealers make a lot on their addons (if you want them, that's the cost of getting them, if you don't, you still have to pay for them), so $30.6 including tax isn't an all-time super bargain, but it's not too bad, either. But just wondering what those crazy dealer options on your car are. What the heck is "DMA" for $5000? Or is that DMA the "Dealer Markup" (over MSRP) that you got them to take away? And "Nitrogen in the tires?" Does it come with Vitamin B12 for the radio, too? Why would one want Nitrogen in the tires, as opposed to normal air? These are LRR tires, right? Anyway, enjoy the car. You'll love it. (I personally actually like the Plus trim better -- the smaller screen, real physical radio knobs, still have a CD player, cloth seats that will stay cooler in heat, etc. I know each trim has tradeoffs with what it offers, I'm one of those weird guys that actually likes the Plus trim better, so decided to get that instead of the Premium). By the way, when I got mine a few months back, there were dealers in LA/OC that were trying to sell it for above MSRP too (SmellMore, er... Elmore Toyota in OC being one of them), most were simply at MSRP and wouldn't go down, but found one that was about $800 under MSRP (which then became about $600 under MSRP after they forced the $195 sticky tape addon) but still the best deal. Mine was made in 2/07 so the Prod # is in the 3000s if I remember correctly...
Are you sure that isn't CI57 (the letter i instead of the number 1)? I just found out my car's VIN (at least I think I did... snicker....) and it ends with CI52 (at least I think it does... nasty little fine print!).... AND... having now read further on: "Initial" VINs are for production purposes? And THEN the VIN is changed upon completion / getting ready to go on the vessel? So VERY confoozed........
Mine was built in March and I bought it on 30 March. Last part of the vin was 15296, so I assume it was the 14,296th one made for distribution. MSRP was $34,380, which included $395 for the blizzard pearl paint and $885 for delivery processing and handling. I got the $1000. Toyota rebate, but had to pay the onerous Washington state taxes. Maybe not the best deal out there, but I am extremely happy with the car. If I were in the market for one now, I would wait a few months until the 2018's were available. Not that I am concerned about the depreciation from one model year to another, but I am assuming that a number of software updates will be available next year and I doubt that they will be available to download to my car.
That's an interesting hypothesis. I don't want o keep bothering the dealer so I'm just going to wait until I get the car and then I'll report back.
IF it was "the 14,296th one made for distribution" as of March, then would that be for "world-wide" distribution? Through June of this year, only about 12,000 total had been sold in the US.... Monthly Plug-In Sales Scorecard
Ok. I finally got a picture of the window sticker from the dealer. Of all the bad timing, I'm on vacation after standing directly in the line of Totality for the 2017 eclipse and can't pick up my car until next Monday. After all this wait, it will sit in the dealership for a week. Anyway, #38,836
my last six digits are 33823. Not a prime number, but it's only factors are prime: 149, 227. It's classified as a squarefree number... Other than that... It means they sold a lot of these cars so far.
